I placed a small pin magnet next to the hole being drilled. I dipped the bit in gear oil and drilled at slow speed. Constantly cleaning the bit. My magnet is .300. the bit was .320 approx. I did the same with the 1/8 inch pipe tap. BTW cast iron drill filings are like powder, which makes it...
tested thermostat, put it back. bypassed FDC. had a heck of a time getting parts as our Napa doesn't carry much of anything. I ended up pulling the 45 out of the HH and installing a 45 air brake fitting with the sleeve built into the fitting, instead of a separate piece like the one I removed...
drilled exhaust manifold and tapped it at 1/8 inch NPT, installed EGT thermocouples, wired it up. The pod they sent doesn't hold the gauge properly, so they are sending another type. replaced the compressor belt and both alternator belts. removed the flame heater and plugged the manifold...
this is the second one Ive seen in this color. Maybe its a "air force" thing. I can't find it in the manuals I got. I'll try calling Idaho Motor Pool to see what they say. At one time (decade?) they owned it.
drove it home from the trucking company that picked it up. the guy I bought it from threw in all kinds of stuff including the compressor belt replacement tools and belt, filters, O-rings, 4 complete manuals, LED spot lights, LED tail lights, cold weather cover for the front.
I ordered a block heater and new lower radiator hose, I'll install and test it, but its warmed up here enough where it didn't need it to start right up this morning. I need to check the thermostat (if it has one) because the gauge didn't read above 130 ish on the 20 mile drive back. the engine...
I got it home, now its going to get a front to back service, EGT gauge installed, belts, hoses replaced, boots and seals, before I take it out to play.
The trucking company is on their way to Portland to pick up the M35A2c airfare deuce. Tomorrow I'll drive it home from Bonners Ferry Idaho. Ive ordered parts for it already from Big Mikes, and The Sensor Connection (EGT). I got 5 gallons of prestone and a 400 watt block heater and a new lower...
You need to pull it at a minimum. then you can tear it All down and mic everything. BTW, the cost of a machine shop, magnufluxing and hot tanking, plus head work, can exceed a good used one if you want to do it proper.
when I was young (decades ago) you could pick up old WW2/Korean war landing panels real cheap. they were approx 2'x8', 14 guage steel with 1 1/2" holes punched through them with a little 1/8th inch lip to grip the soil. Id like to find about 4 of them for traction mats when I do something...
