I bobbed mine simply because I like the look and have wanted one ever since I first saw it done a few years ago. In my eyes alone, I like the look of the original deuce configuration (6X6 on 9.00-20), but I think they look even better bobbed. But, I also think that the 5-tons look great as...
I think it's because a deuce, on it's own merit, already stands out from the rest. As for the modifications, it's generally just to suit the owner's tastes and not just to make the deuce into something it's not. No one (that I know of or even heard of) bought one that didn't already like the...
Well, I'm fairly short (5'8"), but those headlights are eye-level. It's certainly a monster to me! I might even need some wire rope or chain "steps" to help getting in and out of the cab...lol.

Wheels/tires are on!!!

Still not quite drivable yet, there's a few small things I need to take care of, but the motivation is high at the moment!

There's lots of 5-tons and probably a few deuces if you search the Phoenix area craigslist ads. I normally search "military truck", "army truck" & "6x6" and get multiple hits. Insurance runs me $172/year from Gulfway Insurers and collector plates were $70.25 for 2 years.

I called the tire shop today, and my tires are all ready for pickup tomorrow!
:naner:
He said that the run-flats didn't need to be removed to patch the leaks (there was only one tire with a leak anyway). Here's how he patched the tire with the run-flat installed (just in case anyone else can...
It's a great idea I think! I (and anyone else I bring in to help) had to sign a waiver in order to work there and use their tools/equipment, but that's to be expected. And it's not just me, there's plenty of other folks who are doing the same thing there. The part of the company that's...
Yep, great guys! This Saturday is their monthly open house, and they'll have TONS of vehicles on display (including, but not limited to, all their Rally Fighters). I believe another local member might bring his HET to the event too. One of the employees there, a friend of mine, will have his...
I wish I could figure out how to attach photos in line with the text that describes them; this forum is the complete opposite of every other forum I'm on in regards to how pictures are posted...

I was too busy during the holidays to get much done, but I'm back at it now! A friend let me borrow his trailer the other day and I hauled my wheels/tires up to Purcell tire on I17/McDowell. They quoted me $30 each over the phone to: dismount, remove run-flat, patch holes (if necessary)...
Craigslist has lots; there was at least 6 or 7 for sale in the last couple days. Just search "military truck." Oh, and welcome from Mesa! If everything goes right, I'll be bolting the 16.00-20 XZL's onto my bobbed deuce this weekend out at Local Motors in Chandler if you want to swing by.
