I have always given them all I mentioned. Do not know if the MPs will go out and look at sticker. Visitor center number is 254-288-2865. Call them and ask. Also if pulling a trailer you may have to use the Clarke Road entrance. Again, ask them. The rules can change.
Go into visitor center, take a number, pick up free book with map of Ft. Hood, have ID, car registration and insurance ready. Put pass on dash and STOP at check point. I usually salute the guard when cleared. Make left on Tank Destroyer road. Do not speed. Good luck
Welcome from San Antonio. I grew up in Shawnee and we had a farm near Homewood. Lots of trucks going on auction at Ft. Riley. I used to go to DRMO there every month when I lived in Manhattan. Good luck in your search for a truck.
My M998 has the shackle mounts with shackles on lowest set of holes. There are 2 sets holes/mounts above the shackles. However, the tow bar feet I have with 3/4" pin are too narrow to fit any of these attaching points. There are specific feet for IbesTek towbar that I think will fit.
Welcome from San Antonio. Too bad about your batterys but at least they are easily replaced at some cost , however. Sounds like you got a deal. I've paid more for CUCVs!
I am all for keeping it original. With that said I added an airlift bumper for protection in San Antonio! Also, brush guard and new seat belts. As I have said before many of the original auction HMMWVs have been modified. It is your truck!
don't feel badly. Many of the original auction HMMWVs have had many owners. Also, the advice on the sites such as this were not available in the "early days". AM General was no help unless you had an H1. Get advice from the experts on this site and move ahead. They all are fixable. It is a...
Agree with suggestions for respirator. I wet sanded by hand using 320 grit. Marked camo pattern with chalk, sprayed Gillespie primer and then applied the 3 colors. The flat paint and camo pattern are very forgiving so don't get stressed; you can always go back and adjust a border. I wore...
On my M998 they are accessible. Are you sure you are using the correct holes? There should be a reinforcing plate between the body and washers. If it is missing you can make it out of bar stock. Another trick is to super glue the washer and nut to the plate after careful positioning. My...
Sounds like a fair deal if most everything works. I paid a little more but it had new tires, paint, brakes, and dash. Rust is a big issue so check rockers, tail gate, bottom of doors, etc. Plan on spending some money as these are 30 +year old trucks . Goodluck and welcome.
