It runs!!! I got it started Wed. and off the trailer Thursday. Cleaned up the points and it fired up and ran on one cylinder. Messed with the timing and plug wires and finally saw that the plugs were sparking everywhere but where they were supposed to... New plugs and it runs on all...
Ok, I'm surfing around and looking to see exactly what I have, and not finding much here on ss. Is there a better site for this?? I checked out G503 and found almost nothing useful there either...
I'm intrigued by the fact that the M38A1 I have is tagged as such, but has the re-enforcement...
You must be from Arizona... :) Yup. Snow plow mount is hanging off the front, but only u-bolted on to the frame and to the front spring pack. It's coming off ASAP and the brackets and plow will become scrap. Heavy scrap, which is nice! :)
There is a sweet little "HY-LO-JEEP" hydraulic...
Here's a shot of the four that I helped recover from Ft. Campbell. 30' trailer. And a shot of a guy that was there getting 8... on a 30' trailer. I really hope he made it where he was going, as they looked kinda wobbly going out the gate...
I also should commend Jason as being a superb...
Yup, has data plates, and it's solid for the most part. The dash plate that the data plates are attached to is strata blue, but the orig color was OD. Evidently started life in the Army, then xfer to AF before getting "discharged". Strata blue would be kinda cool as an alternative to OD...
Well, went up north to help a friend build a deck, and came home with a '55 M38A1. Owner wanted it out of his garage, where it's been for at least 5 years. I have the maintenance book that came with it when it was surplussed out, and it shows Wurtsmith Air Base as the last station for this...
I have solargizers on my deuce and my M1008. They seem to be working fine, and I would swear that the deuce batteries are getting stronger and stronger. (They were really weak when I put them in there... Well abused 6TL's that actually came out of the 1008)
One of my friends just put one on...
That's an old Michigan DNR fire deuce... Looks a lot like the one Kalkaska had when I was a kid... Guess them might still have them running around northern michigan... It was probably put together by the guys at Roscommon Equipment Center
Somebody took the tank off the back and ripped...
On the plus side, note that they are fixed yoke output t-cases, which is nice!! They would probably swap right into a HD chevy, and with a little work, give you full time 4wd. Wish they would provide a Low range unlocked mode... That would be awesome!!!
Anybody know what makes this...
I rode the snowies twice this winter, mid Feb and mid March, for a week at a time. We got to ride the first day of the 4' storm that WyoDeuce is talking about... It was AWESOME, and he's not kidding about the depth of the fresh snow... I was pushing snow OVER the windshield on my sled if I...
Yeah, I had my 101A1 measured out and it was close to being a drop on for my '96 longbox GMC. I think the dist from the front to the wheelwell was a little long, but the width was almost perfect, and OA length about right too. I was gonna make it work one way or another. :) I think it'd...
I'll second that you should NOT be getting metal shavings out with an oil change... Will they stick to a magnet?? I think the bearing material is copper/tin. No sticky... Pump metal would be iron, and it'll stick. I doubt you stuck a relief valve. Double check your gage... if the...
I'll second the front sway bar. Specifically, make sure both bolts are there where the bar attaches to the top of the spring plate over the front axle, and make sure the clamps have both bolts where the bar gets clamped to the frame in front of the axle. Sounds like you're missing something...
Check tire sizes first. If the circumferences are different, the locker will make the truck pull toward the smaller tire on accel and toward the larger one on decel. If it didn't do this before tires, start there.

I plugged off a set of filters in about 1000 miles, but it happened right after the stock in-tank took a dump and I put on a Carter inline pump... It's weak at best I think. If I still had the stock in-tank, I bet I wouldn't have had to change the filters, as they didn't look bad at all. I...
Now that is a very clean hinge design!! I was going to try to mount something off the bumperettes, but I I don't think I will after looking things over some and reading that they're spring steel.
Thought about turning the rear shackle mounts upsidedown as a pivot point, but the three bolts...
Hahahaa... I think the "1 ton" refers to the common rating, not the actual weight... even one of those mini trucks weighs more than 2000lb... :)
So what happens if you have a "1 ton" and you pry off the badges and put on some 3/4 ton badges?? Problem solved. Unless they count tires and...
Hmmm. Assuming a DT360 is roughly the size of a cummins, you have your work cut out for you... It's pretty long for the engine bay, though it should fit. I think it's pretty tall too, but it should squeeze between the hood and axle, as I've seen 5.9's in the old Chevy's a few times...
Cool! I have used mine to haul two roofs worth of shingles to the dump now. Not hauling any more until it gets a dump bed conversion!! :)
I wonder what was mounted on the driver's side of your bed... Looks like pipe inserts welded into the lower bed side. Never seen that before.
