Ok, fellas with the kits, riddle me this: If I let my truck sit overnight before I change the canister oil filters, there is really no mess to it. Unfortunately, pressure does take a long time to build on cold starts. If I put on a spin-on filter kit, with anti-drainback valves, there...
Recovery4x4 makes a good point about lockers... If you're not comfortable with the tail walking sideways occasionally, they are NOT what you want for icy roads. If you were thinking deep snow, my experience says chaining up is way more effective, as NDT are just about useless on snow/ice...
Hmm. So far as I know, at least in MI, they look at the tires and the hitch. The do not look for any "data plate" at all, as most trailers don't really have one. But that's MI. If it's commercial, it would have to be plated for the weight you intend to carry, but I think the first break...
I don't think I'd pay much attention to the weight rating of the trailer as deemed by the military... The 101A1 trailer I had had about a 5k axle under it, and I'd bet the springs could handle most of that... I think 2250 is pretty conservative, particularly if you're talking about an A2...
I had a metallic sounding noise coming from the flexplate/inspection cover on the truck I put a 700R4 in. Turns out one of the torque converter bolts had backed out of and was starting to cut a groove in the inspection cover. Might want to drop that baby quick and see if that's all it is!

Fellas, if you check out the available interior colors in '84-86, I'm betting maroon was the best choice... For sure there were no grey or black interiors back then. I'd bet the choices were light tan, blue, and maroon. Think I'd have picked maroon too. :)
I used some spray bomb vinyl...
You guys are gonna love this... I stopped at Oshkosh on my way to pick up a new truck in MN. Been 10 years since I was there... The place has changed a bit for sure, but you can still get a good look at the trucks from outside the fences... Took some pics... Here you go!!
BTW, they most...
Lane, you have a truck that'll pull a 30 foot trailer?? I can get a tri axle bumper tow car hauler you can use if you like. I was bidding on four also, but they went too high for it to be worth my while at this time. Too many other projects... :) Since the box of the trailer is about...
Blazer uses a different hitch than a pickup. I believe the blazer hitch is tougher to install because between the pintle brackets and gas tank, it's almost impossible to get the bolts in and tightened. Think you almost have to drop the tank to get it done. Or weld it on. :) If the...
Roll back would be sweet!! The PLS trucks with a flatrack are the best of all worlds... Can't get much better loading height than a 8" tall flatrack, and they dump to like 30 degrees, which won't slide sticky clay, but it's a good start!! If only I had a PLS deuce... ;)
I think you'll find...
If the TH400 is out of a van, it's for a 2wd, and will NOT mate up to any kind of T-case. If it's not, it still won't mate to a 208 that was bolted to a 700R4. So you're out of luck both ways! :)
PM you with another option...

Where are you going to school at? I went to Michigan Tech, and it was 5+ of the best years of my life!! :) I had a '78-82 1/2 ton chevy that I wheeled all over that area bone stock for the most part. I think a M1008 would be an awesome rig for a college kid with a little know how, or the...
I can't talk much about internals, but the Mil IP has everything you need already present. You just need the complete TV setup, with the bracket, guide, and relay rod... I got my trans from a civy burb that a bud was parting out. I still need to hook up the the 12V power wire that went to...
When I got my deuce, the electrical gauge was a 60psi, while the sender was 120, and they didn't agree at all... I bought another air press gauge off epay and plumbed it in where the electrical gauge was. Works perfect, looks stock, and never lies.

Be forewarned, the solid state "pulse" pumps usually don't put out the volume that a deuce requires... They actually become a restriction once the engine is up to speed. (search for in tank pump fix...)
i just put an external impeller pump in my deuce. I actually put it in the tank, so...
Not sure if this started life as a military vehicle or not, but I've been drooling over it for a few days and thought the M880 fans would appreciate it. (Cell pics, sorry...) I keep meaning to ask who's it is, as it's parked at the Quality Inn where I'm staying. It makes me want one, but the...
I just did the same thing to my deuce, but I used two 600W heaters meant for a 4.0L jeep engine. I used the 2nd freeze plug hole from each end to get them somewhat spaced evenly and allow even block heating.
Freeze plugs knocked out easily with a punch and hammer at one edge... As that...
Yup, it gets plumbed into the intake side of the compressor. There's normally a 1/8" pipe plug right on top of the intake, and that's where the evaporator gets plugged in. Mine hasn't got but a few hours on it, but the fluid level hasn't changed much. I suspect it might use a little more...
Pump Dissection
Well, my in-tank pump died during a drive last week. I went through the typical fuse check, wiring check, bang on the tank routine with no luck, so I removed it last night. Couldn't get it working, and it had super high resistance that varied when I banged on it. (Never...
