    Cold Weather and heat-M998

My temp guage is currently inop, but i don't have a reason to assume otherwise. My truck has a 4-man soft top and even in the cold weather up here it still manages to produce enough heat to be somewhat comfortable inside. In comparison, my ex-Canadian Forces 'Iltis' jeep heater blows so hot...

    Cold Weather and heat-M998

I wasn't getting very good heat either. I replaced thermostat, cleaned-out the entire coolant system, replaced a couple of questionable hoses, all to no avail. What i ended up doing was pulling the heater core and cleaned it out in my basement washtub with a couple of chunks of garden hose-...

    Fan stuck ON

Ok, so i applied compressed air to the fan clutch and it works as it should. So without just swapping out parts hoping the problem goes away, how can you tell if it's the TDM vs the Temp Sender that's the culprit? If either of these units fail do they automatically default the fan to stay...

    Fan stuck ON

Good to know. The fan is in good shape so i won't worry. No, the fan won't spin by hand with the engine off.

    Fan stuck ON

It appears to me that my engine cooling fan is now stuck fully engaged, creating a very audible 'whirring' noise, especially at higher RPM's. I'm afraid that if i take her onto the highway at 55+ MPH the plastic blades won't be able to handle the stress and might come apart or something. Am i...

M-1026 heater issue... is everyone else freezing to death?

I was having the same problem. What i did was pull the heater core and rigged a hose onto the inlet and outlet tubes and blasted hi pressure hot water through it, alternating from both ends into my wash tub. I also filled it with CLR and even some dishwasher powder a few times for good...

    Securing a HMMWV

Yup. The cable with an eyelet is built into the humvee around where the hand throttle is and will only pull out far enough to secure around the lower steering wheel with a padlock.

    Park Brakes Rubbing

No, my truck has the dual rotor configuration, one on either side of the diff.

    Park Brakes Rubbing

I'm having an issue with my park brake pads making contact with the rotors, even with the handle and rod adjusted to full extension. According to the TM the older, single rotor types could be adjusted with an adjustment nut to a preferred .020 clearance, but it also states that the newer dual...

    Turn Signals Issue

I'm having an issue with my turn signals in that sometimes they work fine, while at other times the globe on the lever and the lights themselves stay illuminated without blinking, and sometimes they blink twice as fast as they should. Very frustrating. The 3-lever switch is NOS and the arm is...

selling to the canucks up north

I'm curious about the turret ring issue now! If what you're saying is true, we won't be able to import any ring-equipped hard tops or humvees already configured as such (ie hard top slant back)?

selling to the canucks up north

When i brought my humvee over the border the CBSA officer asked me if it had armour, weapons, radios, or a weapons platform of any kind. When i said no, they gave it a quick look and let me go. I knew the armoured doors were going to be an issue so i had them removed by the previous owner and...

    Frame S/N

Awesome, thanks. The concensus thinks the number stamped on the rear frame is actually the julian date ie. s/n 12685 would be day 126 of 1985 (Monday, May the 6th, 1985). However, some vehicles may have had replacement frame members somewhere down the road in which case the number would not be...

    Frame S/N

Here's my LH rear bumper. Can i assume this is what you're talking about?

    Frame S/N

Thanks. I've heard of that location as well as just aft of the rear most LH tie down loop bolted to the frame. I looked in both areas but didn't see anything. I don't have an airlift bumper so i'll start removing some of the paint on the rail cap and see if it's there..

    Frame S/N

I saw once on a G503 thread that there is a number stamped on the LH rear frame but i can't seem to find it on my humvee. I'm either looking in the wrong areas or the number itself is obscured by paint, dirt, or whatever. Does anyone know where the exact location is so i can at least get the...

    Transmission Problem- No 1st Gear

I'm having an issue with my tranny not wanting to go into 1st gear. When the selector is placed in 1st there's the typical thump of the tranny engaging and the engine labours, but when the accelerator is pushed nothing happens except revving. When driving in D it seems to start in 2nd gear and...

HMMWV Wiper Motor Stripped Nylon Gear

Seems like a good example of poor engineering as seen on civilian vehicles- designed to fail. Replacing these units isn't cheap and someone could potentially stand to make some good coin by casting replacement gears out of aluminum or something and selling them on ebay.. :-b

HMMWV Wiper Motor Stripped Nylon Gear

Here's a few pics, just in case there's people out there who have never seen the guts of a wiper motor..lol

HMMWV Wiper Motor Stripped Nylon Gear

My new style wiper motor hits a dead spot part way through its wiper cycle and just stops with the motor continuing to buzz away. When i took it apart i discovered that the big, white nylon gear in there has a nice groove carved out of it. Somewhere along the line with the previous owner i'm...
