Functioning glow plugs draw something on the order of 80A. The power contacts on the relay have to be capable of carrying that load as well as breaking that load.
So those are starting batteries not deep cycle batteries?
If they are deep cycle they would work well in solar applications.
I would think they would be good for the generators.
The point is two batteries can deliver twice the power of a single battery. Whether that power is at twice the voltage (series) or twice the current flow (parallel).
So you are right in the sense that two batteries in parallel can deliver the current to turn a starter motor for a longer period...
Ahh so the point is to create a deliberate short circuit and then look for the arcs created when trying to break large current flows?
In my world short circuits are a bad thing, they cause short circuit current that damages things (in this case fuses, fuse links, wires, alternators not to...
Two 12V batteries in parallel will NOT put double the amperage through a starter motor.
They are capable of delivering double the amperage but the actual amperage draw is a function of the design of the motor.
P=I x E
Power = Amperage x Voltage.
Double the amperage for a given voltage and...
I believe that is the power from the solenoid to the starter motor.
I had one die like that on the wife's ford. One time start, next time no start. Not sure why they are open wire like that (heat issues?), exposed to road salt and water. When I put the new starter in I coated that wire with...
As Mr. Stinson used to say "rods don't knock for very long". The time a rod stops knocking usually coincides with the time said rod explosively protrudes from the side of the block.
If your engine is still running after several minute I think it is safe to say it is not a rod knocking.
Us an Ohm meter or continuity tester and measure for continuity between the ground stud/terminal and the alternator case. You should read open between those two points.
If it is not open and you connect the front battery positive to that stud/terminal then the entire chassis is charged with...
Scan or photograph your drawings and upload them so we can see what you are seeing.
Please do not take this as an insult or attack because it is not, it simply is an observation of fact. If everything is correct you would not be melting battery terminals. Something is wrong.
I have had...
Is the passenger alternator an isolated ground unit? If not and you connect the 12V positive of the front battery to the ground on the passenger alternator when you go to connect the 12V negative post on the front battery it will see a dead short.
I do not see why not other than fitting things into the spaces available and the cost of a 24V battery verses a 12V battery assuming you can get the same or higher CCA ratings.
Series two batteries and you double the voltage but the current level is the same as a single battery.
Parallel two...
