    M931A2 bobbed / plow truck / dump

Leave the frame and suspension alone. The M931 has the same short frame as the M929 dump. You will have your hands full getting a hydraulic wet kit on it and a dump bed without changing suspension. I had similar plans then just broke down and bought an M817 and then a 929A2. Finding a...

    Camo painting

Rustoleum flat black does not have the blue tint in it that the FS does. The camo black in rattle cans is closer. Brown in Rustoleum camo (rattle cans) is close. I'd get a sample or quart of the Behr Ultra (acrylic latex) in the FS black and the 383 brown and try it. So far the only thing I...

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Yea like that....If you notice, his driveshaft guy used a different type of yoke and the U-joint has no plates on the outside on that yoke. That is something I didn't come up with when planning my driveshaft. C & C said that they have went to the 1480 style U-joint and the 3.5" tube. I stuck...

    Quad Cab

Rusty, no more than one weighs, I'm willing to ship it cross country. Can you get a name of the shop, maybe a person there and PM to me? Thanks

    Quad Cab

"cut the flat yoke end off and welded to a new tube with the carrier". I see. I wondered how you (he) did that as the weld on yokes seem to be no longer made. I'm doing about the same but using a new spline that has the bearing landing, where you have a (new style) yoke. Here is the part...

    Quad Cab

Re driveshaft....You did something I didn't know is possible....combining the old yoke that has the plate on the outside with a newer style yoke. Do you have a spline at the front of the forward driveshaft? Is the forward one straight or is there an angle? I'm building my driveshaft, have...

    LED issue

The resistor installs between the + and - . Springer is right, it brings the load to where a mechanical system can "see" it.

    LED issue

Yes, changing the flasher unit to one that works for LED is good but using a 50watt resistor makes a standard flasher think there is a bulb with the draw of incandescent. They are about $6 each and only need to go on the turn signal. Everyone selling LED's has them.

    LED issue

Did you use a 50 watt resistor on the turn signal to simulate the heavier load of incandescent?

What did you do to your deuce this week?

Working on the driveshaft for my M35A3 4x4 project. I'm going to need a carrier bearing or else have an 84" long driveshaft...which is over the critical length according to Spicer. The original driveshaft will be used for the front section and the portion that attaches to the axle will have...

Deuce 4x4 with M105 reduced spring and air bag

The driveshaft connecting the two axles is not the same as the driveshaft to the first rear axle so the intermediate driveshaft is too small for using as the second half of the new driveshaft. It would connect to the axle flange(s) but the yokes, cross and spline are smaller. I need another...

    M105 bed on non-bobbed deuce?

Here is the next part of putting an M105 bed and axle placement on a non-cut frame.....the drive-shaft. The axle position was based upon putting the center of the wheel on the center of the wheel well when there is only 3" of bed overhang behind the rear of the frame. That makes the axle...

Deuce 4x4 with M105 reduced spring and air bag

Time to work out the drive-shaft for the truck rear axle. I measure and the length needed is around 84" (that's 7' 0") for a one piece driveshaft. An older post has a link to Spicer but I can't copy it. On page 18 there is a chart that gives the max critical length for each size shaft at the...

    M1101 ?'s

I agree with the wise men above. If you have ever taken the frame out from under a uni-body car, you will have the same issues with the mods you describe. If it's got a straight body, keep it stock. Taking large portions of the ALUMINUM trailer away hardly makes a difference on the...

    power driven trailer

I know this shot is not real clear but here is the position of the truck rear axle. It would be near impossible to take it above the pintle.
  16. tobyS

    power driven trailer

Jbulach, it would be directly below the pintle. Here is a list of materials as I see it. Each axle needs a 6 spline 1 3/8" stub shaft (fab to flange), there must be two carrier shafts, one on the truck and one on the trailer and each have double pillow blocks (about 10" long). And then...

    power driven trailer

Rusty, I would see this as an off road only thing for having the drive line attached, low speed. That said, there may be advantage to having hydraulic, maybe air cylinders to help it stay in the desired position, especially when backing. I'm going to have the PTO on the tranny, so could do...

Pinion angle when using m105 springs and zero degree perches. Should I use shims?

Thanks Jbulach. The transfer case seems level with the frame for both front and rear outputs. I don't think it is tilted back...that's not mentioned in what I read that I can recall (I'll do some searching). Yea, it would be relative to the angle of the TC. If you have info that it is...

Deuce 4x4 with M105 reduced spring and air bag

Well, don't go with a 3" space if you plate the side like like I did, go 2" or 5" lower than the frame but don't go 3" or 4", the attachment bolts end up too close to the flange. I went 3" and have to make the bolt reach clear through to the edge of the flange. I'll make a detail of my...

Deuce 4x4 with M105 reduced spring and air bag

Cleaned the additional springs and put them back into the spring pack with a lot of red grease. Now there are 11 leafs, the 3rd (small) one is removed. I had grease all over from squeeze-out but seeing the crud that was in them originally, it seemed the best thing to do. Today I find the...
