    M37 n.o.s gas tank?

I had a tank that started dripping gas and when I got under there and cleaned the spot with a wire brush, it was clear that I had a serious problem. So I pulled the tank. By the time that I cleaned the tank bottom, I had several dozen pin holes. I cleaned the thing up, and used a soldering...

    Got me a A3

Great truck! Back flush the heater core with a garden hose and get an idea of the flow. You should be able to solder the pin hole. Thats what a Radiator shop will do. Or just take it to one. Its not an uncommon problem. Getting it out, is the big job. Lee in Alaska

    Anyone else made wood bows?

Make a jig of the desired radius, and bend them to it. Clamp them in that position, and let them cool overnight. They will then stay that way. Any time that I have wanted a double bend to be a certain fixed length, I have always relied on a double gig to get the space between the legs...

    cold start

With engine wear, compression falls off some, and that is a major cause of the engine not starting, in cool or cold temperatures. There may be other problems too, but low compression/white smoke is a big reason why they won't start - that goes for any diesel. Give it a sniff of starting fluid...

M 1031 Farm Contact Service Truck

Super - way to go. There will always be something more to add though, but have to be practical. And you have that covered! Nice work! Lee in Alaska

    M43 won't spark

Your missing the problem. Its there, your just not seeing it. Probably a grounded connection on the point side of the coil. Lee in Alaska

How slow do you go m818

Andy has it right! Folks today are comparing these "off road trucks", to ones that are designed for todays highways. I have never had a Five Ton, but back in the Old days, I converted a 211 to a tractor and pulled medium sized loads. She would fade right down on the hills, like 10 to 15MPH...

M818 mud flap bracket help needed

Those civilian mud flap hangers come in an offset version too. You really only want them on the truck, when bobtailing anyway. Lee in Alaska

    M37 Carb Questions

Associated with the air cleaner & tubing that connects it to the carb, are two sets of vent lines that vent the distributer....... I have a mental blockage... and something else. I thought, beside the crankcase. Lee in Alaska

WTF is this from the turbo?

Just looks like "Slobber". Incomplete combustion/water vapor, etc. Extended periods of ideling is a big cause, but there can be many combinations of causes. Usually associated with running too cold & slow. Usually first manifests itself by running down outside of stack. If you have to idle...

    M813 Jake brake questions

The Jake doesn't have anything to do with air with the trucks air system. But the Jake does work by compressing air to absorb energy, to slow the vehicle. On compression stroke at about TDC, Throttle off, a solenoid valve closes and uses engine oil pressure to open the exhaust valve/valves...

    wood bed preservative ideas?

Use drain oil! Think recycle! Try to get a hot day & use a paint roller with a broom stick screwed into the roller handle. It goes nice and fast and works well. I like the oil from diesels best. It will leave things a nice black & look sharp in a couple of days. Lee in Alaska

    M813 Jake brake questions

Call a heavy truck shop and get prices. I can tinker with that stuff, but feel its money well spent, to have somebody that works on them all the time, do the job. They will know all the tricks/fittings/bolts to use, and more importantly, what not to use. I'd put an air scoop on the hood, or...

New Guy. I have some concerns...

200f is not a high temperature for a working transmission. 150f is relatively cool, but you have to be real tough to hold your hand on a 150f surface. So don't be real surprised if you get burned. Lee in Alaska

    water pump?

Sounds like an "air lock" in your heater. System needs to be full with cap on radiator. Bring up to temp, and loosen clamp on heater output hose. Just barley crack hose off of fitting, until coolant comes out & not air. Again, cap needs to be on! And up to temp - you will have pressure in...

Making your truck a tank, or converting your Deuce to a tracked vehicle

I remember seeing a WW2 deuce with a set of tracks on the rear, using the duals as they are. They were mounted over the tires. That would be the simplest way to go. A version of the "Half Track". Lee in Alaska

    1953 M-37 axle question

Did you try Vintage Power Wagon, in Iowa. As you have learned, axles are not real strong. If there is ever a question of traction, or the need for more, put it in 4wd. Good luck Lee in Alaska
