Thanks for the advice. Gravity did not work, so I went to the local Wally World this morning and picked up a boat siphon kit with hoses, cut them to length, filled the fuel filter with diesel, squeezed the bulb a few times and he cranked right over. I did not want to install an DC electric...
This is the second diesel genset I have purchased from them over the last 5 years and other than missing the delivery time frame, they produced a real nice quality Yanmar Genset. Just call them because they tend to be slow in responding to emails.
Well after parting out some of the parts of my MEP-002a and selling the old Chinese knock-off genset, I was able to put the cash together to purchase a new Yanmar Diesel Genset.. The unit was purchased from Maine Central Diesel and it has a 10hp, 3600 rpm engine and generates 6.5kw. See the...
Just hope your IP is not seized up. Make sure you clean, clean, clean the tank, pumps, lines and replace all the filters before attempting to start him. Good luck and be sure to make good use of the search engine on this forum as you it will yield you lots of time-saving information!
Spent about 100 hours on my MEP-002A and about $2k in total and gave up. Now I am parting it out. Just very frustration as I have been restoring military old iron for 20 years and this project got the best of me. My advice, a Yanmar 6.5kw Genset for about $2250.00. That's where my funds are...
A word of advice, don't make any mods to the filter systems until you get old iron running and producing power and power on a load. Once you are confident you have a solid and dependable running unit, go with Tom's spin-on oil adapter kit for starters. Good luck!
Folks,
I have decided it makes more sense to part-out my functioning MEP-002A in an attempt to recoup some my investment. I will modify my classified ad this morning on SS and may list it on Craigs List, in NH, also. Thanks to everyone for all their help during the past year!
Guys, I can't thank everyone enough who have helped me through this restoration process, but I have decided to sell and the ad is now up in the Classifieds. I just hope I don't take it on the chin!
I have been a member of SS since 07 and don't plan on leaving as I am hoping to take these funds...
Thanks for all the suggestions and comments but this piece of military old iron has beat me and I have decided to throw in the towel on this project, mostly due to health reasons. Once the new pump arrives, I am going to put it up for sale and prefer to sell it whole in the classifieds on...
Plan on $450-$600 for a shop to rebuild the IP.
Here is the shop I used.

QUOTE=Buttweet;946037]Anyone know price ranges for 002/003 injector pumps or can they be rebuilt at a turbo shop. Carrying one of my 003...
I spoke with another diesel mechanic yesterday and he also said it is not normal for the IP to be hotter than the block and that would cause the unit a major fuel delivery problem during operation and re-starting.
This may account for the fact that I have to wait 15 or 20 minutes before the...
I am days away from jumping out of my first floor window because of this restoration project. As many of you know, I had many issues earlier this year with the genset and finally got it running. Since then, I had been pulling it out of my shop once per month and running it for about 45 minutes...
Thanks Carl & Ditto. Last year was the first time I missed the rally in about 12 years! Want to get a gallon of OD Green also! See you up there, hopefully!
Ok folks, spent a few hours yesterday taking all the great advice given. Here is what I found. I opened up the control panel and everything inside looks brand spanking new. K3 was loose so I tighten it down. 24 volts to both K2 and K3. So I proceeded to take of all the wires and cables off...
Thanks guys for all the guidance AGAIN! Just to clarify, when I turn the switch on to start him, the fuel pump(s) activate and the clicking is the solenoid for the IP.
