The bed will go on sometime this month, as weather and time allow. I kind of like your idea (if I understand correctly). Would this involve bolting channel or square tubing to the underside if the bed lengthwise and then using the old mounts? Seem to me that this would work well and allow flex...
Far be it for me to interfere in something I've been banned from, but I think I must. The 4th rally didn't go down because there was too much to do. Doesn't trying to invite (to quote G Company's site) a group of "professional living historians" sound like a recipe for "too much to do?" Not to...
Tom,
I think it depends on your level of expertise. If you don't have a high level, it's probably not the way to go. I have a low level of experience in this stuff, and while having done some bus conversions, mini trikes and such, an airbag setup is way beyond me. Other people can just whip one...
You could just cut the entire rear off of the bus, close up the front end nicely, and use that as the entire bed. Probably easier than a slide in, and convertible too if you have the equipment to change the beds as needed.
Can't find the pics, but my last Bluebird like that had the windows...
I don't know whether you can use front springs from a 5 ton, but I went with the deuce front springs. I'd never done anything with suspension before, and it made it much easier (though I didn't have to remove them from another truck.) Payed through the nose but they were worth it.:grd:
Now I'm REALLY conflicted, being a former bus conversion guy! That's a nice 5.9 Cummins, but a really nice bus too. I'm glad I don't have to make that decision. BTW, is that a 40 footer?
Bob comes home
I've taken it out four times now and so far nothing's fallen off, so a great victory there. Finally got to take it home from my friend's place, and drove it about 50 miles to pick up Badga at school on the last day before Thanksgiving. Drives GREAT! Much is left to do, but to...
I really like the idea of changing the data plate, and already keep a copy of the original spec sheet for the XM381 in with my insurance and registration in case some LEO says it isn't an MV (I have MV plates). What are the problems coming with altering what is, essentially, VIN markings...
Hey Dave, you can call me a “PeaceNiks and Pacifistic” all you want, but you did end up solving your problem within the system. Congratulations! [thumbzup]
Moving forward is all very fine, but you'll recall that I was disinvited from all future events for speaking the truth about how this all went down. Or didn't.
We are not on different sides. Big Glenn fan here. I hate what's happening in our country and am prepared to defend it to the best of this broken down body can do. I can still write but I probably didn 't put it that clearly. What I was originally trying to point out is that this thread...
If this is turning into a mob, you are it's leader. The above is pure character assassination. Let's see some citations to back up what you're saying. All I see is torches and pitchforks here. Isn't there an Occupy protest somewhere near you where this would be appropriate?
This sounds an awful lot like Willful Destruction of Public Property. Is that what you're advocating here? I stayed off this thread for a long time, but sometimes some of you guys sound more like an angry mob. And angry mobs are dangerous.
Too bad we're not off-roading this morning. Hot dogs and burnt marshmallows would have been good last night, too! It's really sad that I was the only one to call others out for this fiasco. Of course, you'd have been kicked out of the 5th Semi-Annual Texas MV Rally too.
Any others out there...
I have air assist on my steering and I like it. It didn't work when I first got the truck and it was a bear to steer. I got a gasket fabricated and replaced and it works well, except it still dumps too much air in a right hand turn. Still hoping to find a rebuild kit, but no luck yet.
