I sometimes split shift but still start in first when I do. Even empty, a M109 is carrying a ton more shell then a M35A2. I do shift quicker out of 1st, say at 2000rpm instead of 2400rpm for the other gears.
I have split-downshifted as well. Usually on my way to the gun club, I'll downshift...
There's 5 or 6 behind the fence at my local Air National Guard facility, A2s and A3s. These run, they move them around the lot every so often, so they're still out there.
Going back to the 1 inch opening on the air filter housing....how about mounting a fire extinguisher inside the cab and running the hose to that hole? If the engine runs away, just press-and-hold from inside the cab. Would it work?
I just drove Rt 16 from Errol to Conway yesterday, my wife and I were taking an alternate route back from skiing at Sunday River. Nice Ride! We were in my wife's mini cooper but I could see how it would be fun in a deuce with the great mountain and river views. I didn't realize that area is...
If you had first clamped the hose going from the frame to the front axle before removing the lines, then you might have gotten away with just bleeding the airpack and front wheel cylinders.
Mine also doesn't have the relay. Check the starter button wiring/plug. The wiring might have kinked. The plug may have pulled away from the switch, or the contacts inside the plug may need to be bent back into position to better connect with the prongs on the switch. Also check those...
Sorry the hacking caused you the grief. I was amused by the emails and the redirect, you should be flattered SS.com was interesting enough to outsiders to be a target.
Since Dug is promoting this thread in his sig line I thought I'd help him update it.
Several week ago, when changing my secondary fuel filters, I noticed the inside coating of the filter houseing flaking off. I could easily scratch off the coating with a nail. This made me decide to convert...
It might not be rust, mine had hardened algae which looked like rust from the tank fill. Drop the tank and/remove the pump for a closer look. Rust will be attracted to a magnet.
DW, one fluid to consider is Traveler Ford Tractor Gear Oil from Tractor Supply, looks like there's one in your county in Patterson. It meets the original GL-1 spec.

To change the starter you need a thin walled 15/16 socket and a ratchet swivel. Depending on the starter model, you may still need a stubby or cut down 15/16 open-ended box wrench to rotate the nut closest to the frame. For this job also pack a thin strap to tie around the starter solenoid...
Interesting, hadn't see that pump yet. I have the other harbor freight air pump that displaces liquid by pressurizing the container at low pressures. This pump has a mechanical piston that operates at 90 psi doesn't need a pressure vessel.
Had two tires and tubes changed, wheels sandblasted and black powder coated at my local Goodyear Wingfoot. Dropped these off Monday, picked up end of day Friday.
Installed Westfolk's secondary spin on filter kit with four new fuel lines.
Painted four rims, including the wingfoot serviced...
FYI, part of my overspray was angling the gun to get primer to the inner lip of the rim facing the rubber. I can see on DeucesWild's oversized tires that lip is not as exposed, but on the 9.00s there's a good 1/2 centimeter or more of exposed metal there.
This seems to be a good way to hold a tire in place to paint both sides of a rim. The tire won't stand up on its own but you just need to gently lean the rubber with a board against something. Its easy to rotate the tire to get at hard-to-reach areas.
Note, for masking I just brushed on dish...
