Hey there. I haven't been active on the forum or playing with my MVs for a while (I've been busy with some of my other hobbies... I have way too many of them!), but I've been thinking of thinking about trucks again lately. So I wandered back on here, and heard "military radios"... one of my...
I'm resurrecting this thread to say THANK YOU! This weekend I decided to resurrect one of my CUCVs that has been sitting idle for at least a couple of years. I was surprised to be able to recharge the thoroughly-dead batteries enough to (barely) crank over the engine and get it started, and then...
That sounds like a fun trade. After working on 5-ton trucks for a while, I bet it'll be surprising just how light those big wheels on the HMMWV will seem!
That'll depend on what particular configuration you want for your HMMWV, what era in the life of the HMMWV (which has spanned more than one radio generation so far) that you're trying to restore it to, how much money you are willing to spend, and (in the case of the latest radios) whether the...
I don't know of an installation manual specifically for the M35A3, but the manuals for the M35A2 are probably close enough:
TB 11-5820-890-20-7 (AN/VRC-87/88/90 single radio)
TB 11-5820-890-20-9 (AN/VRC-89/91 dual radio)
Without having a new and complete installation kit, you'll probably need...
You, sir, are my hero! I have a mostly-complete, partially-working AN/GRC-122B set on the back of my HMMWV, but I'd dearly love to acquire/build a proper GRC-46 set someday. I have most of the components to recreate the set (just need to get around to repairing a lot of stuff), but not the...
Hmm, I thought that I already responded in this thread, but I don't see my post. Maybe there was another similar thread?
Anyway, I'll leave guessing my call sign as an exercise for the readers. ;)
Could it have been a GRC-9 with one of its dynamotor supplies (DY-88 or DY-105, IIRC)?
I think there may have been Jeep installations of the GRC-19 (T-195 + R-392), possibly placed on a shelf at the rear in place of the rear seats. There was a GRC-106 installation in Jeeps; I have an...
My AN/GRC-122B shelter came with that family of mechanical TTY gear, and I was surprised to find paperwork inside that suggested that it had been mounted on a HMMWV. So, it appears that the old mechanical Kleinschmidt teletypes were still in use beyond 1986.
I swapped out my main page printer...
Looking for the wiper switch in a Toyota truck? It's a 5" long lever on the right side of the steering column, opposite the turn signal lever. You don't even need to take a hand off the wheel to hit it. And that's where Toyota has been putting their wiper switches for at least 30 years.
Wow! What a cool tower! [thumbzup]
I'm looking forward to seeing pictures of it cranked up. Eventually I need to put up some sort of tower, but I haven't found mine yet.
Has anybody ever tried cutting one open and rebuilding it? Seems like a CDR valve that can be disassembled and rebuilt would be a nice product for CUCV and HMMWV owners.
I'm not sure where else it goes. I haven't tried following it yet. I think that capping it off sounds like a good idea. One of these days, I think i'll do a remote fluid reservoir modification, and I'll cap off the vent line then since the cylinder would vent through the remote reservoir cap.
