    My Four (!) New CUCVs

Ok, I found the form after a brief search. Hmm, that does look nice! Luckily I had the foresight to snap pictures of the dataplates and odometers this morning, so I was able to submit my request even though I'm at work, 40 miles away from my trucks. I guess that they just blindly accept whatever...

    My Four (!) New CUCVs

Well, since I'm not quite sure what I have yet, I haven't decided yet whether I'll sell it as-is, harvest its organs for parts, fix it up and sell it, or some combination of the above! I'll certainly keep you in mind, though... maybe it'll end up in your garage before too long? Keep in touch! ;)...

    My Four (!) New CUCVs

No, I didn't find any switches for the light or siren. I haven't looked at the wiring carefully yet, but I did find a cut wire in the engine compartment that was clearly added on (cable-tied to the original harness) and it was heading towards the front of the truck. Maybe it was part of the...

    My Four (!) New CUCVs

Finally, the last truck: Lot 8607 is an M1009 dated 11/1983. This one seems to be in the worst shape of the lot, and I think it's first in line to be my parts donor. ;) The front driveshaft is missing. It previously had radio gear, but the radio shelf has been removed.

    My Four (!) New CUCVs

Lot number 8603 is an M1009 dated 2/1986. It appears to have been a Military Police truck for the Army. It still has a red light behind the front grille and a mechanical siren under the front, though the wiring looks like it's been cut, and the control switch(es) don't appear to be present. Do...

    My Four (!) New CUCVs

Lot number 8602 is an M1008 pickup truck dated 7/1986. The bed is in good shape, though the troop seats need new wood slats. Paperwork that I found in the cab suggests that I can look forward to fixing blown head gaskets. I may or may not keep this truck.

    My Four (!) New CUCVs

Lot number 8600 is an M1009 dated 2/1986. It includes a radio mounting rack for a SINCGARS set.

    My Four (!) New CUCVs

I made low-ball (?) bids on six of the CUCVs out of Barstow in GL event 3547, not really expecting to win any. Well, just my luck, I won four of the danged things! ;-) I hired a towing company to pick them up for me yesterday. They used two flat-bed wreckers, each carrying one CUCV on the bed...

Towing recommendations between Barstow and Riverside, CA

RE: Towing recommendations between Barstow and River I got my trucks picked up today. Thanks for the help! Of the three M1009 blazers, only one still has the rear window crank intact, and the window regulator doesn't work, anyway. One truck has military police markings and still has a red...

my first CUCV m1009 has some problems need some help.

Parking it on an incline should not cause fuel leakage unless something in the fuel system is already broken. The fuel system should normally be airtight from the fuel pickup in the tank all the way to the injectors. There's nothing that should be open to the air like a carburetor fuel bowl.

    Voltage Meter Questionable?

If the voltage meter is properly calibrated and your charging system is adjusted properly, then the needle should be right on the little tick mark in the green zone once the engine is warmed up and the glow plug system stops cycling. I don't think there's any adjustment available on the panel...

my first CUCV m1009 has some problems need some help.

I don't have a CUCV quite yet (my first four were supposed to show up this afternoon, but there was a mess-up with the towing company ;)), but I have a HMMWV which uses basically the same engine. I think. First, I'd consider any fuel leak to be a Bad Thing that needs to be tracked down and...

M818 recovery (important note for all newbies!!)

I'm glad that you managed to get pulled over safely! Judging by the rust that appears to be on that crease in the middle of the hood, I'd guess that you're not the first person to flip that particular hood, so at least you didn't put a big crease in a pristine hood! :) Don't the M800 series...

Under Dash Wireing --- Why Not More Accessible

I agree that it's a pain to work on anything behind the dash. However, I can't recall ever encountering a vehicle (either military or civilian) where the behind-dash stuff was easily-accessible. Having more pop-out stuff would be nice. I think it would also be nice to have the whole dashboard...

Towing recommendations between Barstow and Riverside, CA

RE: Re: RE: Towing recommendations between Barstow and River I originally expected to have my CUCVs picked up late last week, but I had to delay the pickup due to a little medical emergency. With that out of the way, I had everything lined up for a pickup today, but the towing company went to...

    Self locking bolt question

Split lockwashers are standard equipment. "Common knowledge" (for whatever that's worth) in the Hummer community appears to be that halfshaft bolt loosening is a common problem on the Hummer/HMMWV, and the Hummer guys seem to swear by the Nord lockwashers as I recall from back when I spent time...

    Self locking bolt question

Hmm, very interesting. I noted the comment that good ol' split lockwashers were found to aid loosening instead of preventing it. I wonder how the Nord lockwashers that the Hummer guys like to install on their halfshafts would fare? I bought a set of them a while back, and intend to install them...

    mobile shelter

Here are some pictures of an S-250 shelter on an M105 trailer. The shelter fits, and even leaves room for a back porch. I have a few of those M1022 shelter dollies... sort of. I bid on them based on the pictures in a GL auction, not realizing that there weren't enough of certain critical parts...

    Tatra 912-2 upgrades!

No problem! McMaster's prices can be quite high, but they still get my business a lot because they have such an excellent search tool, and I usually get stuff the next day by ground shipment. I think they have a UPS depot built right into their nearest warehouse, which is just one county over...
