    Mep-016b hertz guage readings

I think sometimes power tools will generate interference. I think if you dial in the freq and the RPM of the gen doesn't change then you should still be generating 60Hz. Do you have an external Hz meter you can test with? Kill-A-Watt?

    Ideas for "Making Portable" MEP-017A?

I like my 016D. I have lots of Harbor Freight stuff. Most stuff from Harbor Freight is functional. This works well on my little gen but higher quality (more expensive) dollies do roll better. Here's my original thread about this topic...

    Voltage regulator MEP002a alternative?

Diesel is hard to ignite. Had it been gasoline you probably would have had a fire. Had a similar situation in a buddy's Blazer. While he was trying to crank I saw a flash. After close inspection the braided steel fuel lines were arcing to the chassis when the motor tried to start. Luckily...

    Voltage regulator MEP002a alternative?

There is always the practical/cheap alternative. Buy a 24V battery charger and plug it into the convenience outlet. I have this one, but not just for my 003:

    Voltage regulator MEP002a alternative?

If you read 28 or so Volts across the batteries when the gen is running then the charging system is working. If you get 28 or so at the reg and not at the batteries then something is wrong between. You should get 30-50 or something higher than 28 Volts AC at the stator output. The reg should...

    Mep 016d

I think they're phasing out the MEP-016 types in favor of the newer types. I've gotten everything from broken throttle cable to only bad battery. One I suspect had a NEW Yanmar 10HP but they cross threaded and stripped the nut when they were installing the big wire on the starter so they just...

    Help ID ?Engine spec

Those would make excellent mud boat motors. Your neighbor will probably be able to split giant Redwoods.

    My first green machine

BTW, a Harbor Freight dolly is well suited to the 016D.

    My first green machine

See pic for battery wiring. Adding a regulator, if you don't already have one, would be desired for battery charging, too.

    My first green machine

There should be a regulator in addition to the rectifier. It should put out decent 28V DC or so. Do they not have regulators? Mine is in the shed and covered so I can't look at it easily. It may have been a stop-gap solution but I like the Yanmar with the pull start option.

WOW! I knew my MEP-002A would come in handy someday!!

What PeterD said about the 50Hz meter. Best to get a meter from a lawn mower or boat application that is 12V. I heart Yanmars. Those Japanese Italians seem to know how to make a nice 10HP motor. I wish they made vertical shaft 5HPs that I could use on my lawnmowers.

    Hello all....new to site

My 003 has a bad DC stator. They are similar on the 002, located behind the squirrel cage. As per TM the stator should read 0.6 Ohms resistance.

WOW! I knew my MEP-002A would come in handy someday!!

Yanmars have return lines. Are you keeping the engine mounted tank in the fuel circuit or bypassing it? I see now from the pic the Yanmar tank is gone. LMK if you want to get rid of it. The MEP-016D Yanmar L70 has a special tank with a float switch and is plumbed in with the "underbelly"...

WOW! I knew my MEP-002A would come in handy someday!!

Gravity should work if the filter is below the lowest level of the tank and the IP is below the filter. It should be easy to find out. Just put some fuel in the tank, purge the filter, and see if fuel flows at the level of the IP. Wire meter to ground and maybe to wire that holds solenoid...

MEP 002A -- Failure to Shut Down Properly

Yes, if it was 0.05 gal/hour I would buy many of them.

    Load Testing Gensets

I personally do not think there is much of an issue with wetstacking of the air cooled 002s and 003s. I don't know about the bigger sets. But, I'm sure some soldiers have been in the boonies for weeks at a time with an 003 and running it with very little load. Like selling power back to the...

    Load Testing Gensets

Those people with solar generators pay very big bucks for special meters and such to facilitate the power flowing from them to the grid. While they might get paid for it I think it would take years to generate enough excess power to pay for the cost of the special meters. There are HUGE tax...

MEP 002A -- Failure to Shut Down Properly

And, don't let it run at anything other than 1800RPM, 60Hz. Anything else could damage things.

    MEP 16e Yanmar Starting problems

Make sure the injector is installed correctly. When you hit the stop lever it should stop with no fuss. You need to pull the access cover from the injector and make sure the injector control lever is not outside the "U" that operates it. If the injector and fuel system is clean and...
