I think if you continue to pull the trailer at that angle you will have ongoing brake dragging issues. It should be about level, IMO. Otherwise very nice acquisition.
I have an extra, good 3kW gen head from a 016. Valley, AL is far from BR, LA, though.
I have a spare control box, too, with most if not all the innards, minus the VR.
You ever come to LA?
I can't think of a good, flat place to mount that heater.
Let me know if you give tours of your facility. I'm over here in EBRP. I thought I had too many gens. How's that 802? I thought about trying to pick up a newer small set but the prices always go through the roof. I really like my...
The 016 wiki: MEP-016 Info - Steel Soldiers::Military Vehicles Supersite
has info on the suffixes for 016s. As were made to Ds when the motor was changed to Diesel. I don' t think the 017s had a readily available, off the shelf, cost effective Diesel option. Yanmar 7 and 10 HP motors are...
The Department of Defense generator sets DOD model MEP-017A are powered by a gasoline-fueled, 10-horsepower, Military Standard Engine, either the Model 2A042-2 or the Model 2A042-3. The engine is directly coupled to the sets. I think the gas powered 016s have a 4 cylinder 6HP motor and the 017s...
Click on the link. A wiki is an info section. This one happens to be part of SS.
016 gens are 3kW
017 gens are 5kW
They are totally different beasts. I think they share a voltage regulator and maybe a few other small parts but the last digit of MEP #s makes a big difference.
They have air preheaters. I think you can get by without block heaters. I don't see where it would hurt to use one, though, but the military didn't seem to need them. Or, did they?
The little wires are probably a 12v batter maintainer. I think those are quick disconnects and not fuses, as mentioned. I'll also mention that you would want to disconnect that setup before starting or otherwise loading the battery bank (array) with a 24v load.
The key to battery arrays is...
I assume you've seen the 016 wiki:

I would like to get a 017 head but I haven't yet had experience with a 017
I know Kubotas and other well made generator motors go many 10s of thousands of hours on reefer trailers and such. I would think a Diesel MEP would be good for 5000 hours of good, solid, civilian use. So, I would not be afraid of a unit with 2000-3000 hours on it. I have yet to get one with...
I have a couple of 701As and an 003 w/ASK I could part with. The 003 needs at least a 24v charging stator and maybe more, but runs. Too bad you're way up there, I really need to get rid of a few gens.
I appreciate all the work that goes into making forums work. I moderate on a few. But, my niche in the SS world is limited to gensets and the occasional trailer thread. I would prefer the classifieds be free to members in good standing. I understand it takes money to make things work but all...
Yes, that fits better with the E=IR thing. I was thinking bad connections have higher resistances than good ones.
I was thinking maybe he got two 12V starters. That might make for weak turnover and smoke, eh?
Check your voltage before and while turning motor over with the starter. Maybe a...
