There were no A2 models in the 1950s! But I know what you mean.
Licensing is a factor. On my A2 I just hung an antique plate and went. The a3 does need a weighted plate and annual inspection.
Aaron that is the valve, all you have to do is make sure it is fully open, no adjustment needed. It should be open but who knows.
I took my advice yesterday and eliminated the regulator and added a small amount of lube to the mechanics of the steering and it worked! I have great steering...

Aaron, great that you have your truck! The "power steering" is actually the Air O Matic that is written about on this site in many posts and is not the same as hydraulic steering you are used to. As long as you have air pressure it should be working but at a stop it might not be effective...
That is a great analysis from the point of someone who is fairly unfamilar with the A3.

At least you didn't say the A3 has all those electronics that we can't work on. BTW it is very easy to carry on a conversation at speed in the A3. I always tell people not to try to...
Did you check the fluid level under the floor on the passenger side? Did it shift OK when you got it and now does not? Have you changed out the filter and fluid? Often it is a badly adjusted shift cable in the shift tower. (Speaking as a person without much knowledge on this)
It may not be the best engine CAT ever built but it is plenty good for our use. They were in fire trucks, boats, school buses and so on. There are lots of great testimonials on the internet if you search...
