Prepping to weld on my frame extensions. Planning on using ER70S-6.
I have the back 6 feet of a 1078A1R. Planning to use 3.5 feet of it to extend the frame.
I attached two pictures showing two options for how I could cut the frame. I am leaving the rear frame cross piece (that the hitch...
Do you have any pictures of the top rubber piece on the “base”?
I accidentally blew mine out today.
but it looks like all of mine are bad.
Thanks for sharing your work with part numbers!!!!!!
All good points!
Thanks everyone. I think I will look at just lowering it a few inches and see if I can get the clearance.
I may consider reRouting the exhaust, but I was hoping to not touch that until the camper is done. Trying to limit the work before it is useable.

Looking to reduce the overall height of the transmission cooler in support a camper conversion. The fan motor sticks up pretty high. If I unbolted the the unit from the cross brackets and flipped it over, is there any issue? I would gain some space to blow the air..... otherwise the fan will be...
When I remove the tire carrier, do I need to plug the hose ends. Or, can I just bag them as long I do not turn the tire carrier valve? In a few months, plan to reinstall the tire carrier somewhere else on the truck with longer hoses and add a second one (off the suspension compression valve). In...
I am guessing that I will need to use a screw driver to feel how much of the metal is super soft....keep pressing until it does not pop through, then start cutting.

Thanks for the reply NDT! I think once I start cutting, the hole will end up about 6”x 1”.
There was some chemical in the passenger side locker that spilled. The locker bottom was dust and even the screws that hold it down are now round nubs. I plan to ospho the bolt heads, but the sheet metal...
I am digging into an M1083.... not to be a show truck.
I found some rust holes. I wire brushed it and kept going. I then poked (not very hard) with a screw driver and it popped through.
this is passenger side rear under where the m16 mounts used to be.
I bought Ospho to convert it, but...
Realistically, you have to decide how off-road you will go. My old Tacoma shows the scars of not having enough departure angle on its diy armored bumper. If you know you will never need it and never plan to do dunes or steep transitions, river crossings, etc.... do what you want. It is your...
You may want to confirm how they calculate wheelbase. My understanding is that they measure from the front axle centerline to the bogie pin between your rear tires. On the data sheets for the 1088, it is 4100mm or 161in. 75% is 120”, but that is measured to the bogie pin between the rear tires...
Some countries limit the overhand as a fraction of the wheelbase (front wheel to center of double bogie). I remember it is 2/3 or 1/3 for Australia. I could not find anything for the US.
You may look more than I did just to be sure. It would suck to get much further and find out there is a...
UPDATE:
Randomly ran across a totaled BMW X3 at a car shop. I asked the guy what he wanted for both seats..... he said $40.
I said deal.....
He gave me the wiring diagrams, the seats, the harness up to the main loom (18” or so long), and the heated seat buttons. I gave him $60.... maybe...
Enjoying the build.
Just a thought.... instead of using all-thread in your design, why not use something like this:
https://www.dsuban.com/product/3-4-x-14-threaded-rod-p2099/
You will not have any threads rubbing as the subframe separates from the truck frame.
Just a thought.
Building...
The steering side looks even worse to me. Mine is completely gone on that side.
Waiting on Awesomeness to make the bushings.....
