Trying to Identify and locate a part

    Temperature Gauge question

Interesting because I just bought the one with the light and it came with a sending unit specifically for that and it had a black rubber "boot" that I assume in the connector the wire plugs into. I guess I'll have to double check it ... Just looked it up online and the picture shows a gray boot.

    Temperature Gauge question

All I can add is I have recently updated my temp gauge to a newer style and with it I had to replace the sending unit because they are different. They look the same but function differently. Make sure you have the correct sending unit for the gauge. I don't know how to tell the difference...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

About 2 years ago (page 5) I started mounting rear half doors. I prefer to call them cargo access doors. The cargo doors only have door latches that release from the outside. I suspect the reason they are shorter is to prevent them from being used as man doors since you can't open them from...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

The update on that starts on page 7 post 138. I'm ready to bolt it on and continue. I think I have everything to put it all back together now. Except the actual AC lines and well the rest of the AC install. More on that to come. Moving on to the rear half doors next. I have about 5...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

Money wise it's not too bad really. I thought I messed up the original clutch and I did damage the shaft but it turns out that it was beyond repair no mater what I did to it so I had to fix it regardless. Spending $200 on a used "good" clutch was going to happen anyway. I was lucky I had...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

There are 3 bearings. 2 are sealed bearings and 1 caged bearing. The sealed bearings are the ones that were bad in the "good working" used clutch. The original clutch had great sealed bearing but the caged bearing was toast as you can see in the photo. Luckily I was able to use the sealed...

M988 upgrade to M1045A2? Is it worth it?

The question is do you NEED any of the updates? Do you NEED 12K shafts? Have you broken any of the ones you have now? I have a M998 and I NEED a 4 speed. Although I have no intention of driving it on a highway I do want to be able to drive on primary roads that have 55 mph speed limits...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

Then I took the "good working" used pull apart and found the same caged roller bearing was not pressed in far enough and the seal was doing nothing. But at least it had been greased and was in good condition.. I was able to seat the bearing correctly. Then cleaned and regreased the caged...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

Moving on, as I mentioned in a previous post I was having a difficult time getting the fan clutch to line up the bolts holes to remove the clutch from the water pump pulley. I applied 150 PSI and the clutch wouldn't release. I made a puller of sorts to release the clutch and that didn't work...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

The seller sent me a "New" compressor. This time as soon as I received it I opened the box and checked. Much to my disappointment it too was damaged and had a bent pulley!!! I took a picture and sent it immediately and in my haste I texted him asking if he had bought a bunch of junk surplus...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

Update on AC compressor. I bought a Red Dot (Sanden) AC compressor on epay. "New" in the box surplus. It had a clear dent on the pulley from an obvious drop. I didn't notice it until after I mounted the compressor and spun the pulley. I contacted the seller and explained the issue and he...

    Red Dot AC relocation

I am in the process of installing one in a 2 man hardtop Avenger unit. I completely disassembled my evaporator unit to clean, repaint and custom mount. With the required components in the evaporator, the blower motor, coils, electronics, etc, I don't think you could put it in the turbo dog...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

Buttoned up the tail lights and rear side markers today. Painted and mounted a tach. I looked at numerous locations for mounting. I decided I like a lower mount rather than off the top of the windshield.

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

2 steps forward and 2 steps back. Got the clutch off, destroyed it doing it. Replaced the water pump pulley with a 5 groove (arrow 2). All new belts, it needed them. Got the AC Compressor mounted (arrow 1) and found a flat spot on the pulley. Turns out it was dropped at some point prior to...

    My Restored HMMWV

Mine won't ever be "restored" for 1 simple reason, they won't let me have the SAM missile launcher :D One mistake I made was selling the original HMMWV wheels and tires when I put the H2 wheels and 17" tires on. I'll probably end up finding a set at some point and having them for off road...

    My new 1992 M998 Avenger

Had a delivery today. Still have to figure out how to get the fan clutch off before I start messing with the rest of the AC. That's a project for tomorrow.
