"Bikini" cab top cont'd.
I drove the truck at speed, approximately 55mph, and the top sat firmly to the supports with no vibration or flapping. The ventilation was great and it kept me from baking in the sun. I really like the look of it and I wish I could keep it on the truck full time...
My old three color camo soft top became a little beat up and was not good enough to be my primary cab covering. I replaced it with a solid OD top about a year and a half ago. However, the camo top was not bad off enough to trash it. I decided that a “bikini” (AKA bimini) or half top would be...
Definitely looking SICK! [thumbzup]:grd::driver:Enjoy the parade! Wished I lived a little closer to Sierra Madre. No parades out in my neck of the woods:roll:
The rear bolt, as DH pointed out, secures the shift lever into the shifter housing. Tighten that one down because you don't want that lever coming out whilst you're driving:shock::doh:aua
The nut and washer on the right side secure the bolt holding the first/reverse shifting finger in place.
McMaster-Carr down in Norwalk. Search air brake fittings on their website...
http://www.mcmaster.com/#air-brake-tube-fittings/=ne4n6j link on that page for tubing.
The prices are decent and I can get them in two days shipped or one day will call. Eventually I'd like to replace everything...
-I have put everything back together after changing the front seal on the transmission...jackshaft, clutch linkage, sprag air, etc...then decided to upgrade all air lines (fwd, rev, and supply) for the sprag to 3/8"OD DOT push-to-connect.
-New return spring on brake pedal...
-Custom installed...
You can get them brand new direct from http://www.stephanwoodproducts.com/index.html
Or call Dave at http://armytrucksinc.com/ in CA. That's where I got my staves, corners and bows.
I ended up just unbolting mine. Some have said it can be done in place, but it was a PITA for me so off it came. Actually, I kind of laid it over to its side and was able to get to the upper nuts with ease.
Staves (uprights), corners and bows are interchangeable and easy to find for all M44 (2 1/2-t), M39, M809 and M939 series trucks. M813 and M54 trucks' covers should fit the 14ft. M939 cargo body.
To get an idea....20 X 30's from a M915 slightly modified on deuce mudguards. Just don't back over them (i.e. curb, steep incline):oops:...don't ask how I know.
Thank you, Sir. Much obliged.
I just picked up this thread...nice build.[thumbzup] Now for my 2cents. The quarter fender concept is definitely interesting. However, the standard flat mud guards look better and more original. I like 686 sand with hint of 383 green:driver:.
Good catch on the B/O torque rod. Glad nothing went catastrophic for you. I did not have any running failures, but I replaced all my ends last Oct. for peace of mind. The bottoms are RELATIVELY easy and, I have to agree, the the tops, especially the trunnion bracket nuts, are a PITA. What ever...
-Changed out the front pinion seal on the front axle...
-Changed input shaft seal on the transmission (should've done it last year when I had the darn thing out for the rear main seal:doh::rolleyes:)...
And...
-Installed new Truck-Lite bracket/Peterson LED license plate light.
Stuttert horns rock! Almost got one myself!
NICE! I know what you mean! My Nathan P3 grabs the gullet of even the most hardened "text-while-driving" driver.
