    Help with M817 transmission diagnosis?

Once the shift lever is moved from the Reverse position into the Neutral position or any other gear position the sprag will engage for forward movement. The sprag will not change position until Reverse is selected. Then, will the sprag engage for rearward movement. DO NOT allow the vehicle to...

    Help with M817 transmission diagnosis?

Mine is cantankerous coming out of first to neutral. It does get better once warm. I am in the habit of double clutching all shifts as my fourth likes to mash its teeth a little up and down. As a side note...I no longer use the LO called for 80W-90 gear oil. I am using Spicer recommended SAE...

M817 Blowing smoke but won't start

I am going to agree with the selector valve and rubber hoses issue. Mine were bad and I replaced everything. However, I could get the engine to start but I had no power above idle. At one point I did get the no start with white smoke. Since tackling the project I have had no problems. DO...

    M813 with full Air Brakes

Not an M813, but close enough...An M818 out of Portugal. Take note of the wedge styles on the rear...it can be done. Looks like M939 parts. Apparently they do great rebuilds there. Gorgeous truck!

    M923 on fire

Dave, that blows man! Judging by the photo looks like the truck is parked over by your maintenance shed/garage, correct? If so, being near the center of your yard, It would require a would-be saboteur to have to hoof-it a good distance after breaching your perimeter fence. If somebody was going...

What have you done to your 5 ton this week?

Well, this weekend (03-09-13) I purged and refilled the power steering system with hydraulic oil, installed an in-line fuse on my previously installed reverse alarm/light, and started the wiring for my forthcoming armor dome-light. Amazing what you can get done when your truck is at home and...

M939 spare tire davit on M818

Had to make sure I got that 11.00R20 ONLY disclaimer in there. I didn't want to be on the receiving end of a rant when that super single didn't fit:grin:

M939 spare tire davit on M818

Yeah, the clincher is getting the tire back up into the rack. I just rolled it off onto my grass to get it down. I got real good at taking the tires off and putting them on when I did my torque rod project.

M939 spare tire davit on M818

I also obtained the big "wing nut" that is part on the M939 outer vertical rack securing rod. I did a little fab work to make the rod and wing nut work. The shorter rod is the original and the longer is what I fabbed up. I did cut it down about another 4" when I finally got it all fitted up...

M939 spare tire davit on M818

Fearing someday I may have to hoist one of these extremely heavy 11.00R20 tires back into it's carrier while on the road side, I decided an M939(A0) spare tire davit on my M818 would be fitting as standard equipment on my truck. I was able to find all the parts locally. I picked up the inner...
