    moving tandem axles?

The reason of ALL the bolts is for a better clamping together of the parts( a lot less movement), not so much for out right strength. as much DESIGN that is in these trucks, if fewer larger bolts was thought to be a good idea, there would be larger bolts, there is a REASON for everything and the...

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

    Broke my A3 dogbone

Good call, now that you found this, I want back and looked at the pics again, look at number 4, you can see where something like a fork hit the mount, this mark is right in line with the torque rod, could have knocked it off the bushing, if that was the case, a PM check should have spotted it

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

The torque rod(strut) design and use has been around since the first truck suspension design and still in use today, the failure of a torque rod and causing a catastrophic failure is NOT the fault of the torque rod design, yes the brake line might need to be moved. WE are talking about TWO...

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

so does the older MV suspension, the springs and pocket take care of the side to side movement, and the torque rods take care of the roll and front to back movement , you loose a torque rod (strut) on a modern truck, look what your axle does, at times it goes where no axle has gone before.

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

WRONG, in a lot of big truck and trailer suspension, that is what EXCATLY what the torque RODS (struts ) DO

Design flaws? Torque rod, split rims?

torque rods are still USED TODAY on MODERN trucks, a good design, just rubber does not LAST 40 years without a BIT of deterioration' Back in the late 40s/early50s when these trucks were FIRST designed, ALL big truck RIMS were SPLIT RIMS, a very good design, the one peice rim is a better design...

    hho injection?

I was going to say, this sounds like a very LEAN condition, awful hard on pistons, valves. This sounds like the ETHAOL scram, where it takes more energy to produce than it puts out, so it takes MORE ethanol mix to get the same energy output then straight fuel.
