Check the clutch arm to make sure that clip is in place, also give the clutch and bearing a good inspection, now is the time, the voice of experience speaks. Also you may want to replace the coolant hoses around the water pump, mine were all rotten, they were hard enough with the engine out.
I was lucky that it was in the carrier when I got it. Did you look through all those carrier's you found stacked on your parts run to see if any had them mounted still? Also would be curious if any of those were ambulance carriers with the brackets still there.
RT-524 installed, was waiting to find the power cable, Fair Radio had them. Still need to run the antenna base tuning cable and mount the mike hang up.
An on line ad had some manuals for sale, I asked if he had any more goat parts and for a month or so he dug them out of a storage building and kept sending them. One was the new center console, he shipped it thrown in a zip tied garbage bag and it arrived without a scratch from CA, a shipping...
In the process of replacing the front clip of my recently acquired 86 M1009, looks like it may have shot off in the woods and hit a tree. No frame damage, all sheet metal damage.

Here are some more NOS goodies I found by accident, all boxes are marked Tooele Army Depot, BII truss kits and a jack packed with the goat. Only thing I am missing is the lug wrench.
Luckily I am only doing the tops, transmission output, transfer input, just waiting for the rest of the parts to show up. Both seals and sleeves were readily available.
Interesting that if you go here you can buy a kit direct from Uncle, you can even add it to your Amazon account.

I have a 3 ring binder from a retired motor pool mechanic who was a big fan of the Goat. It contains every PS magazine article ever published on the goat, also every known article published in the various military vehicle magazines. My plan is to publish a goat book with them. Must be 200+...
That location above the fuel tank is the correct location for the M11, although it is tight as you say. Be careful on that fender mounted one, don't catch your shoe on it and take a header! Actual footage of Operation Urgent Fury shows the MERDC painted goat with a yellow bridge plate...
Pulled the leaking transfer input seal today, looks like to be safe I will speedy sleeve the flange. Looks like the transmission output seal is leaking too, might as well tackle that now while the u-joint is out.
