I thought I read somewhere (on SS?) that it's not so much the miles, as it is the HOURS on the engine. I thought someone said over 1,000 hours was probably looking at a rebuild?? I would hope that one could get substantially more than that out it.
Just an excercise in math: 100,000 highway...
Nice truck, nice bull!
Someday I'd like to do a BIG game hunt. These wimpy little whitetails around are tiny! I wonder if I could use my M109 as a hunting blind! ;)
Super, guys. Thanks!
I'm still sort of awstruck that you can do most of the daily PMCS and other minor repairs with two wrenches and a screwdriver! How refreshing from the endless list of specialized tools you need to do the most minor repair on todays civilian automotibles!!
One "specialized"...
Does anyone have handy either a) a list of the most commonly needed tools (with sizes) for working on a Deuce, or b) the reference in the manual where they may be listed. I have the manuals, I just can't find a concise list of tools.
I'm off to Sears in just a bit!
Tanks!
The one I have is probably serviceable, but some of the seams are coming apart on the front edge. I think I'll get a new one to replace the existing one, repair the old one and then... I'll either have a spare, or one that someone could pick up for less than new!
I was working on one of those trucks, too. Was going to have it "staged" at my folks' place until I could pick it up. But I guess I was bidding on the wrong one! Price went too high for me.
In doors, in a locked building?? Who-boy!! guess I'd better getting hammering!!
Actually, I've got a contractor coming over tomorrow to give me bid on the slab!
RE: Re: RE: more
Yep. The engine and highway noise made it impossible for my chase car (my '07 Buick Lucerne, VERY quiet) to understand a word I was saying into my FRS radio! And when I drive around town with my son in the seat next to me, neither of us can understand the other with our hearing...
The status on mine (submitted to BC on 9 Oct) says "EUC submitted to Battle Creek," but I just chatted with GL and they said that it had been forwarded to DRMO for final aproval. I guess that's a good sign!
RE: more
The VIC unit looks pretty cool. And would certainly be authentic. Does the VIC-1 (or -3) have provision for radio interfacing? To a civilian radio??
I'll guess I'll see what I can find on eBay. But keep the replies coming!
What are you folks using for this task? There are plenty of choices out there, and I realize that much of the choice depends on what I'll be running. I'm thinking I'll probably go with something that can provide 20-30 Amps continuous. (Better to have too much than too little!)
Basically, I was...
I'm wondering what most of you are using out there to a) communicate with passengers in your trucks and b) use radios while mobile. I see lots of really neat stuff out there, but most of it costs MORE than my truck!! The pro gear for pilots and race car crews is probably what I want, but it's...
I'm insured with Farmers on all my stuff (home, auto, I guess that's all). I pay around $160/6 months for basic liability for my M109A3 (the same as any other vehicle). In Virginia.
No EUC?? What kind of trailer are you picking up that you managed that? I'm still waiting for mine to clear. (sigh) Won the bid on 9 Oct, EUC went through GL first try. Now it's sitting in Battle Creek.
I'm actually trying to figure how I can make mine a combination communications/CP van, with fold-down bunks and/or storage. They wouldn't be full-sized beds, though. More army cot width. But I'd still like to be able to put 4 people in it for sleeping. Any ideas on a fold down arrangement would...
