Sorry guys. While I appreciate the consideration I was already asked to put it in again this month and I declined. I actually didn't want it in last month but I was traveling and didn't see it had been entered until after the polling started. For now, the Goat is off the market.
In case you haven't seen it:

That's my thread starting from when I picked the Goat up in January to the current predicament that I'm in.
Mine was locked up as well. I jacked the front and real axles, filled the boxes with gear oil then turned the wheel back and forth to break the rust loose. Then I filled the steering box with John Deere Corn Head grease. The grease begins to liquify as it heats up letting it get deep into the...
Congratulations on the acquisition! Try PMing popacom on here. He has the NOS fiberglass seats and cushions at about the best price around. Do you need the aluminum seat frames as well? Not sure where to find those.
Looking good! I just got back from quarkz's neck of the woods (actually N. ID but close enough). Can't hardly breathe up there with all the smoke from the forest fires.
Good luck on the engine rocking. I've got to spend the next couple of days finding a shop that can overhaul my engine...
m38inmaine found the correct thermostat for me I just didn't want to spend nearly $90 for it. Running the NAPA one kept the temp right at 180 even sitting idling in 90 degree heat.
Mike,I know absolutely nothing about rebuilding diesel engines. Could I get by with a standard overhaul kit just to replace the liners and o-rings and keep the original water passage inserts? I really don't want to have to replace the engine but if overhaul kits aren't available not sure what...
It is a relief to know what the problem is. Unfortunately I'm leaving tomorrow for 10 days so won't even have a chance to think about getting started on it until I get back. I have PM'd another member that is an engine builder to see if he'd be interested in doing it but still couldn't move it...
Unfortunately I think it's going to go a bit beyond the head. If the liners have 0-rings also then there is the issue of pulling them as well. I'm not sure if that can be accomplished without pulling the engine. This is a bit beyond my basic mechanic abilities so I'm going to have to defer to...
Thanks to m38inmaine looks like we have an answer to the Goat issue. He found a thread with a description of exactly what it's currently doing and how it would have gotten to that point.
~"Had a tired old 3-53 in my backhoe (rest in peace). I second the notion that these motors just keep...
I posted there and over at DieselStop.com. Maybe between the 2 sites someone will have an idea. By reading some of the sites I'm wondering if the liner seals weren't damaged and it's letting the coolant through somewhere it shouldn't be able to get through. After changing the radiator I...
That air box tube is driving me nuts though. It's actually pulsing now that it's in the shop. It'll go about 5 seconds with a couple of drips then *BOOM* a short stream of straight coolant. Something is screwed up but I can't figure out what it is or how serious it is.
I'll say the same as I do about someone's truck, it's yours so make the most of it and don't worry about what anyone else thinks. You're right that it's better than it being scrapped and I think it's a great re-utilization.
Okay put the NAPA thermostat in. Drove the same route I did the other day and it's 90° out so similar conditions. Temp gauge got up to 180° and held steady. I parked the Goat in the driveway and left it idling for 30 minutes. It was still at 180° so pulled into the shop and shut it down...
