Is your emergency shut off value pulled. ? If someone pulled it you have to go under the hood and push the arm forward to rest it or the truck won't start.
I had to replace the flasher on mine it's under the dash and a bit to the left. Theread ate also relays that could go bad they control both the 12v lights and 24v if I remember right. There under a panel on the right side of the cab with the twist lock screws. Your problem may be there.
Not sure where you are putting the switch. But if it were out in the weather. Most enclosure are nema 14 for being water proof . If inside I'd use a frankinstin switch.
Look up Gore flex tubing. Or just flex tubing. It's used alot in cnc machines and is perfect for this application!! Where I live I couldn't do the exchange on top like you. To many big low branches on our roads.
