The C model should be the Electronic Ignition. The A is the points version. I've got an upgrade kit to convert my A to a C model. Clean the carb for sure. I'd go ahead and pull the pupm apart as well. Ethanol eats the diaphragm in them as well as the rubber fuel lines and casuing the...
I just converted my a to the spin on filter..... I have the kit to make it a C as well (the upgraded ignition system) Gonna add some wheels to it as well when I can finally get time to work on them. I don'e see why if they have some sort of remote cooler you can't relocate the filter as well...
The Mep016a and Mep701a are no where the same. the 16a is a Gas engine the 701a is Diesel. you must be thinking the MEP-016b/d/e The A & C models are both with 4a032 gas engines, I'm not sure if the simple pump on those could handle remote filters.
Gas would be the 016A or 016C. But it would have a 4a032 engine... and that looks like it might be one of the Yanmar converted ones so that makes it either a 016D or 016E and there aren't manuals for those.
the one most people seem to modify is Oregon part number 49-009 you'll need to take the old mount off and make a new one. there's info on the Yahoo 4a032 group:
4A032 : 4A032 Engine Group

Nada yet...... Between the "honey do list", crappy weather & kids' activities I barely have time to sleep. Once the old Couch gets out of the garage I'm hoping to drag either the genset or frankenkompressor in to work on it a little.
Saturn surplus has the carbs... for ($72.50 IIRC) But Ethanol in the cas swells up the float. The Model of the Engine is 1A08 (same carb for the 2A016 & 4A032) People have modified a brass float to work in it as well.
TM 5-6115-271-24P & TM 5-6115-271-14 are the manuals for the generator. Looking thru the PDF copies I have the parts look correct. It appears that the genrator (rotor) assembly has to be pulled from that side, and bolted to the engine. Chapter 6 of the -14 manual covers it.
IIRC the total redesign was because of the deck height. When pulled behind the HEMTT and carrying MLRS pods the M989 had a tendancy to want to flip over if it hit a bump just right.
I've modified an all Brass float and have it installed in a Spare Carb. I'm hoping to try running it here sometime, if free time ever comes back around.
