sounds like a bad switch . did you play with the dimmer at all. It may have a bad spot . It works best all the way up or they get way hot otherwise.

Im thinking blown head gasket at the least. Was it a hot day? It normally takes alot to get a cummins 250 to over heat.

Also if the fuel lines are sucking air they can climb in RPM as well.so check your fuel system.

Replace all rubber lines. And check your fuel filter gasket. the fuel lines crack and it alows the pump to suck air.

The truck could have lockers in it . They pop hard when turning.

Put a AC unit in mine. it was a easy install. but I recomend a 12V system aposed to a 24V system since the Alt isnt designed to draw that much current and will toast on ya . lol
