Always start in 2cd, unless loaded, been doing it for years. Took the transmission out for a bearing problem and the clutch looked great. I threw a new disk in because I was there, but the old one had very little wear.
On the 20,000lb M108, I use 2cd low range and split shift.
1st to 2cd...
Really should fix that double posting thing....
Hardtops are on of the things for M35's that are priced way high in my mind. I can't see why the hard top is worth more than the engine.... I got one cheaper, thanks to Gimp.
I have a kind of dropside on mine. Wood sides that stack. Here's a link to the thread

There is a breaker, in the light switch. 30amp self resetting. Heaters and other add-ons got a resetting breaker on the firewall, above the steering column.
Maybe I should have said different mounting? I lucked out with fitting the hoist in. I did trim 2 of the smaller crossmembers on the bed, if I remember right. Just a personal preference of not wanting the bed any higher.
With the right mounting, you don't have to raise the bed at all. Mine fits with the bed at stock height, sitting on the original wood strips. Most people can't tell it's a dump. Most I haul is 7-8 tons.

Really need to get the heads pulled, and see if the bore is trashed. I'm thinking it is. We have gimpy's wrecker LDS with the bad crank, and I have a white with loose head bolts in unknown condition. Also a set of LDS piston's/sleeves. Between the three motors should get something good.
I...
Wow, that was a derailment of a thread! Now I need to pull a bearing out of the spare tranny, and put it all together.
M108 is resting in the pole barn, it has yet to move. Been gathering some parts. I would love to fix it, but house, cars, and garage keep getting in the way. Maybe after...
Was doing some heavy hauling with the M35 and trailer when the transmission started making noise. It started in 5th, and by the time I was done the only quiet gear was 4th. Lot of fun driving 30,000lbs with 4th high and 4th low.
So finally pulled truck in garage to tear it down. Everything...
I get a surge of power when my primary filter is starting to clog. About 50-100 miles later it will surge then lose power. Not uncommon with waste oils on my truck. Sometimes have to change secondary filters.
My all-purpose M1061. Have uprights and cover for hauling out of the weather, raised cover for a mobile workshop I can stand in, and stay out of the rain, stackable wood sides so any side can be any height, flat deck for whatever, ramps for vehicles, and tows behind crane to load and unload.
this was in the 2008 pic thread.
