The rims look to be from a HEMTT and they will work, but the front and rear track will be different. Adding 14.00x20 tires will require you to remove the rear splash shields and misc items from the truck.
RE: Beadlock/runflats
Thanks much Sarge. I never knew the Army used these runflats in 5 tons. I thought only the beadlock style inserts were used. I will have to get some and just try it. I think I "need" them.
Great pics, thanks for sharing. The duece looks great and the deer camp looks like good times were had. Regarding the deer, if the bucks are getting bigger, what did the little ones used to look like?
I too was disappointed in the factory horn, so I added one of the cheap air horn kits. It was about $35 and easy to install. It sounds great and LOUD! Here are some pics.
There are several options, but I would go with 5 ton rims from the M939 series. Backspacing should be about 11" IIRC. HEMTT rims will not track the same front and rear, unless you flip the rear hubs on your truck. The rims are the same width, but the backspacing is different.
RE: mounting beadlocks
Thanks Sarge, that is good info. Are these runflats "authorized" for use on the 5 tons or is that a "field mod"? Did you notice any substantial negative impacts (brakes, acceleration, suspension)? Does the Army typically use the method you outlined, or is a specialized...
I have seen similar inserts used on HMMWVs but does anyone know much about the 20" ones? What vehicle(s) are they used on? How does one insert them into a tire?
I found some information on http://www.forceprotection.net/ but was hoping for some first hand knowledge...
Good luck with your search, but you shouldn't have to pay $3.75 each way. What kind of trailer cost $3.75? That sounds like a specialized one, not just a flatbed.
There has been a lot of good information posted on this topic. A good search would help you see all the options. Singles with stock rims is not the best choice because the track will be very narrow in the rear when you flip the hubs (or will not track the same if you keep the outer tire only)...
Re: Advice for swapping deuce axles into monster-truck proje
Lots of guys run rocks on their offroad rig. Check out www.pirate4x4.com for a wealth of good information. Search for a thread on rockwells that links to every other thread regarding every aspect/detail of using rockwells.
