All of the tank haulers are awesome, whether it be the M123, M911, M1070, etc. When I was picking some things up from GL, I was fortunate enough to see a fleet of new M1070s arriving on base. I talked with supervisor of the lot and the next thing you know, he is letting me drive a BRAND NEW...
No rear winch on the M819. It has the 5th wheel plate instead. Unless of course you consider the crane hoist a winch. :?
Full rotation available on the boom. See pics posted recently of fellow member installing front winch using the crane to lift it over the cab.
There are plenty of these rims available. All the former HEMTT rims were replaced with the newer and safer beadlock style. If Sermis runs out of these, let me know and I can get you hundreds.
Therer is a big difference between the M911 and commercial OTR tractors. The M911 is a larger truck, automatic, 6 wheel drive, and maxes out between 45-50 mph. GVWR is probably a lot higher too. Fuel milieage is dismal. Perfect for hauling tanks and large equipment off road, not so perfect...
I found a guy on craigslist that has 2 wreckers for sale. One is a M816 and one is a M819. Anybody on the west coast need one?

RE: Can someone explain the difference in these HEMTT grills
That door on the front of the PLS is to access the hyudraulic pump. No airflow is required through the grill as the radiator is on top of the PLS, behind the cab. It has a hyrdaulic powered fan which brings the air in.
Great, story I love it. Even though you haven't provided the pics, I have a good mental picture of the ordeal, including you going back to fix the lawn!
Frank, if the truck is multifuel, it sounds like it could be a M543 or M246. The M246 tractor wrecker is a little more versatile than the M543 and is a lot more rare. The M246 is easy to distinguish because it will have a 5th wheel on the back and the M543 will have a winch on the back...
Recently, I had the pleasure of meeting with some fellow Steelsoldiers members to swap goodies and stories. I have yet to meet a member of this site that I didn't like, although I'm not sure that goes both ways!
This road trip posed two challenges:
1) Unload a 10,000# PLS type trailer and...
Great, thanks. That is kind of answer I was looking for. I guess I will just have to buy the truck and put the lockers in myself. I have a couple lockers sitting on the shelf looking for a home!
I think I confused some and should have worded it differently. My apologies. Let's try two seperate, but related questions.
Question 1: Do paper clips indicate a former USMC vehicle?
Question 2: Do USMC M809 series 5 tons have lockers?
If yes to both, deductive reasoning indicates vehicles...
