I can't be certain, Bubba sure worked this one over. But I'm guessing it's a M3 or M5 light tank, that had a LOT of stuff cut off it, and added to it. Reason I say those is because it looks like a small armored hull, not big enough to be a Sherman or a tank retriever.
Whatever it was, it's...
Kenny, might be useful to use the Steel Soldiers Transportation System here, Lane isn't far from him, perhaps we can slowly get it down your way. Lane to Gimpy to the GA rally, etc.
Hey Dirt - just a quick question about your restoration philosophy. When you do a ground-up restore like you are doing, do you try to use all new bolts/nuts/etc. or do you prefer to try and use the originals and clean them up as best you can?
What impact would changing the generator to an alternator have during offroading, specifically if the deuce goes in the drink up to the alternator. The stock generator and regulator is sealed, so as long as the engine has air coming in and exhaust going out, no problems. Just worried a dip in...
I wouldn't worry about ugliness - it's a spare tire carrier and will be covered by the tire most of the time.
Keep the ideas coming, the more ideas you come up with the more your brain gets an exercise. That and we'll keep joshing you. :)
Can't wait for this event, we've done this for a few years and it gets better every time. This is open to all vehicle types, jeeps to large MVs, there are some new trails this year that will allow the large trucks to offroad in the woods along with everyone else. This year, WATER permitting...
Yes Matt, that was Saturday.
The trucks that showed up at the breakfast. Two deuces and a 818 tractor. Not the showing from wintertime, but the weather is beautiful, so we guessed a lot of folks are out on the lake, with the family, or doing honey-do lists.
Not true, I have seen a couple movies with actual M1 Abrams tanks in them, but you are right in the fact that there aren't many of them. The US military is happy to loan out real equipment for movies, but if the movies put them in a bad light, they won't. Since most of the movies about war or...
Just wondering, did the M108 wrecker have a double frame like the larger 5-ton wreckers? Or was it just a wrecker body dropped on a standard deuce frame?
Here's my buddy Rob, towing the M332 Trailer of Potential Death back from Chambersburg. Good thing we stopped to check things out halfway home.
Note:
1. no safety chains hooked up
2. no air hoses hooked up
3. pintle hitch almost wide open
4. only secondary hookup is the electrical cable (!)...
If it's perfect condition, maybe between $12K and $15K. One would think they'd be worth more, but their mileage sucks, they are overwidth for road use, so it's of limited utility for most drivers.
