JD,
Thanks for the tip, I'll have to look into them I try not to use autozone when I can, they have all sorts of issues (NEVER EVER BUY A SENSOR THERE). But I'll try to find the haynes manual. The TM's have me jumping back and forth between the -20 and -34. All the parts I'm using for the king...
Guys... This is Haspin... not Tijuana. Stay classy. Although there was something about gimpy and a possum in the conversations section a while back. Anyways, I'm just glad to be one step closer to getting the M1008 back on the road.
Sawzall, a 19mm socket, and a breaker bar.... Its out, took 2 minutes, new stabilizer is in. Now I just need to rebuild the rest of the axle. Probably shouldn't use the sawzall for that too.
Well... I couldve had this thing done long ago... Sawzall and the breaker bar had the old bolt out in 2 minutes... So I now have a tuff country steering stabilizer installed now. Soon onto the king pin rebuilds hoping I have a better clue about what I'm doing.
Death wobble is still an issue... I've done a whole lot to get one bolt off the tie rod from the steering stabilizer piston... Its getting to be sawzall time after the sledge hammer wont knock it out, half a can of PB blaster, and enough heat put into it to set the rubber bushing on fire twice...
Lucky... I'm about to sawzall that piston bolt and put a breakerbar and a socket on it...
As for the tie rod (The bar the steering stabilizer bolts to in front of the axle correct?), does yours have a bit of rotation front to back? Mine does.... not sure if that was normal or not?
Still wrenching on the M1008... Cant get the tapered piston bolt out... PB blaster, heat, hammers, no thing seems to be working.... I hae a few more ideas, so wish me luck. May be getting into the scrap metal business... so far one clamp and and a channel locking plier have died in the line of duty.
Currently trying to knock out a new steering stabilizer... Well I can't quite seem to get it. does the bolt on the piston arm side thread into the big bar? I know my nomenclature is messed up but I can't get that bolt out to get the old stabilizer (which is nasty and hemoraging fluid) out. Also...
Thanks for the tip on Napa. I think I'm going to get some DOM tubing and hex stock when I get a chance this weekend. I've never taken apart an axle before so its going to be interesting to say the least.
Trying to locate a 7/8" hex wrench (looks like I'll have to make one), and that special tool to help with the hub disassembly so I can attemp my first king pin rebuild. I'm really hoping I do it all right.
M1008 is probably out :( But I'm still in.:)
Although... I do have AAA so maybe I'll try to limp it up there or tow it (depends if I get death wobble fixed or not) if anyone wants to help me wrench on it a bit lol. But I look forward to going to this one.
Well I'm looking at a couple D60 kingpin rebuild kits that the man from the brown box truck of happiness dropped off. I also have two days off so I might bable to get this thing on the road again. I hope the TM is pretty easy to use on this one.
I'm still going, but the M1008 developed Death Wobble and I'm not 100% on what I'm doing mechcanically. But a complete king pin rebuild kit for both sides of the D60 axle and a new steering stablizer are inbound and I'll be doing a lot of looking around in the steering system this weekend...
Too much drama everywhere.... My beloved CO has its own mess of issues at the moment too.
All I was saying guys, was dot your I's and cross you T's if theres some issues we'll deal with them as they arise. Just have fun, be safe and keep it as legal as possible. All I've heard is rumors, and...
