RE: is it for sale
Try to get that to someone that can get it together or help another truck get together. Those trucks are too rare now. I saw one similar at Reading and it was amazing to see.
An Air Hammer with the hammer up on the fitting around the lunette and on the lunette should break it loose if you're applying the hammer blows and someone else is whacking the shaft.
So what is the correct socket? I'm going to have to do my bearings at some point this summer and I might as well have the correct socket ahead of time.
In some cases, you don't want to float. though it depends on the vehicle. My Ferret and Dingo can float (flat undersides) and actually paddle along over mud like a crocodile. The Deuce can't do that, so it' needs to get down to firm ground below the mud.
The better ones have a true accelerometer in them that's more dependable than a pendulum. the Tekonsha Prodigy that I have in my Deuce is one of those.
For the steep grade on I77 near your place, about 25 mph. Either straining near the top of 5th gear low range or in 3rd gear high range. But then I was at 26,200 lbs with a trailer back there and no fuel fiddlyness. The rest of the way it waggled from 45-55mph depending on hills and such.
The law was vetoed by the Governor. No problem at any other level and iirc was voted for unanimously in both houses. Why the Governor had a problem is anyone's guess.
I'll join up as well as I'm more comfortable on the long trips, with friends it should be a snap. though, I suspect we'll take longer. I could probably scrounge up a few more too.
