Like I told you I spent many a shift in one of those and they are the bomb. We even had one that had a platform built on the rear end that lowered to make a patio. You can use the channels in the roof to hold hundreds of pounds I built a custom made suspended rack for the TOC hanging it...
RE: Re: RE: Excellent fabrication
Thanks Andy:
That might be a good retirment project only use a duece for the base and sell it for $7,800 for the rest of us.
That is so cool how about some road trip pictures. I have a few road trips to make when I finally get out of Korea. I spent the night once at Camp Ripley on the way to Devils Lake ND. We actually used to shop there to resurface a front wheel axle and make some brake parts on the lathe. We...
RE: Re: RE: Deuce Millage?
I drive mine very conservatively and have gotten 13 and sometimes 14 on highway runs. About 9 when I towed the dolly and M 127
RE: Re: RE: M715
Nice Find with that truck you get it an at least $50 worth of scrap steel too They are nice trucks and I know we all look forward to the recovery pictures and the wrecker when you get back down.
I am going to pull the cab of the M52 when I get home for good and use that time to clean it up and install the winch controls that rest on a double crossbar that spans the frame under the cab. I want to do the same thing leaving as much in place as I can so I will follow your lead of course...
I think for a Military Vehicle collector it is grey until you get to the M818 and above type of vehicles. Driving a tractor trailer is a whole different animal. My 64C guys who morphed into 88M back in the 80's drove all the time and yet I only had about 40% that could really back effectivly...
Is the NTC 250 the father of the 400 Cummins? If it is the son is a good runner and we got tons of miles out of them trouble free in our M915's. The main problems we had were with the CAT airshift 16 speed leaking air and loosing the shift capability. The suitcase waterpump is a great idea...
Great picture bill, having four kids I have seen lots of those... Hope all is well and that the trip is progressing as planned. I saw a big storm headed over the midwest on the TV hope that you get home before that gets to your neck of the woods
Ahh nothing like a Military Vehicle shower, I have had hydraulic variety, fuel variety and in Iraq a huge mud shower while in the gunners mount of our UAH I had my camera on the armor plate clamped with a mount and there was not one part of it visible after the shower. Too fast and too deep...
Mike:
It sounds like you have done some homework, I would get into some old clothes and wade through it to get the real feel for what you are facing. These trucks are built for off road conditions the one thing that you will not have is the rest of the company to include the M816 to help you...
Is that smattering on the door and box the result of car sickness a stale coke or a mechanical problem? Thanks for posting that picture I bet the four old ladies miss that truck too.
As a platoon leader in a 10 million mile per year medium truck company, we used the Holmes fifth wheel towing device much more than either our M816 or later the HEMMT Wrecker since our M915's were on the road every day usually on convoys. We had a practice of always bringing a Holmes and a...
Why mess with resistors and that when 24 volt bulbs are available and the solution would be easier if you had money to throw at it put in LED's that can handle 12-28 volts Or do the the Army did on my M 127 put in two sets of lights 12 and 24 volt. It does look funny having double lights on the...
Bill:
That is an awesome undertaking to see any WW II vehicle preserved puts my efforts at keeping 50's to 70's vehicles up to shame. Please post more pictures and it sure is good to see armor on the site.
Can a post this exciting really go this long without pictures? I mean even a picture of your Mopar sitting in your garage would satisfy that picture lust..
I have had a CLASS AM CDL since they came up with the idea. You will have to pass a physical and take tests to certify your ability to use a heavy truck and airbrakes. I look at it as an improvement to the old Class A licence I held for years. I am currently have TPX endorsements as well so...
