Like dogheads story, ya don't want to learn the hard way. Not to stray from the original topic, but that's the direction this thread is going..... There really should be a classification on a drivers license for the weekend warrior that does the occasional tow. The basics need to be covered...
Also check drive train. Do you still have the stock 3:08 gears? Get going down the road and slip into nuetral. Does it coast fairly well or does there seem to be drag. Hubs warm? Maybe a dragging brake. Does the truck pull? The calipers on that era gm truck can freeze or stick after it's a few...
RE: Where to get a pyrometer?
Hewitt industries. http://www.hewittindustries.com/instruments.htm
No external power source required except to light the gauge. They will supply you with the 24v bulbs for that also. Great company to deal with.

RE: M109A3 General
I don't think there's an 'official' way to dress out the box, in other words, not an option when ordering the truck. My guess is the big guy probably just told the base carpenter what he wanted in it and turned him loose. It's however you want to make it.
Thanks for the trip update and the pics. At first I thought the first picture was a piece of breaded fish...... errrr no.... In the second pic, did you boil the dogs in coffee water? :)
Matt, who did you purchase your seals from? I have a rear hub that is noticably hotter than the rest. I'm going to be taking a look at it and at the very least, repack the bearings. Thanks.
Paul
