Talked to a friend today who drove the gun truck "Lil Sure Shot" in Viet Nam. He wants to come up for the event. Is there a web site he needs to go to sign up?

Is a M106 mule a M274 mule with the 106 rifle mounted on it?
We had them while I was a grunt in the Marines, but we always called it the mule.

I have seen Marine trucks painted white with back outlines for operations in Norway. I think it was called "Operation Northern wedding". I saw the trucks at Camp Lejeune, NC.

RE: Re: RE: VIN Question for SF-97
Freight train
I do not even worry over vin numbers. I have been collecting military vehicles for over 25 years. I would have a stroke if I ever come across one that was correct on the title. I have two titles now that when the trucks were surplused out in the...
I fell on my sword....I did not see your post. I live in the next county from MCAS Cherry Point, and work there also (plus retired as a Marine from there).
What do you need picked up? Just PM me.

One of the first military trucks I let slip away from me was a Chevy firetruck. It just did not look right, so I passed on it. Later, I found out it was a Chevy 4x4 hose truck. It was made to just to carry fire hose to reach fires that were along ways from a fire hydrent. I found the one I...
Yes, I saw about 3 of them that were made into 4 wheel drive ambulances for military base hospitals. One sold here at MCAS Cherry point about 2 years ago. All 3 had duals on the rear.

That is a Chevy 1 1/2 ton firetruck. They made alot of them during WWII. Very good trucks.
Go to this site vehiclesofvictory.com
That is a great place for getting information and parts for the truck. The owner of the site is a good Joe. Tell him FrankUSMC from NC sent you.
If you get the...

I think the C in M35A2C means a dropside. He asking about the 5 ton wreaker. The letter C does not mean drop side on every thing in the military. Do not forget our beloved "M38A1C" , (M38A1 jeep with a 106 recoilless rifle).
What we should be asking is "guner51, do you happen to have...
That truck has no "M" series number for it. It is an, what we called an "off the shelf item". That ambulance was built for a base hospital to use on the base, just like a base maintance truck for fixing base the plumping in base housing. I have seen them made on 1 ton jeep trucks, Dodge trucks...
Looking at the 2nd set of photos you can see there is no battery box for the 2nd battery to make it 24 volt, plus the M38A1 had a storage box (glove box) on the dash to the left of the steering wheel. It is not a M38A1, sorry.
I would say a CJ5M or a CJ5 that some one has painted up to look...
I do not think it is a M38A1. It could be one of the military CJ-5 versions that was developed for export, I think they were called the CJ-5M. It does not look to be 24 volt, other than the one light on the fender, is it even hooked up? Were is the 2nd battery? It looks to not have the 2nd...
RE: M601 tools
The jacks can be found, I think I have two here.
On the lug wrench for your tires, is it the one for Dodge combat rims or the one with the squire hole for duels?

I just talked to Garbee and his "nomads of the road". They are just getting back on the road, after paying or picking up another truck. They are in the state of Alabama......just in case any one wants to get there kids and dogs inside..

Just watch your post over the week end, our NC expert is on the road getting a 5 ton at this moment. I am sure that when Garbee gets back and his hearing returns to normal, he will be more than happy to help you.

RE: Word to the wise for vehciles that have been sitting! FI
We just bought a new small farm, and it came with an outside kitty. I few days ago it showed me a mouse it had killed beside the new barn. She stays on the payroll.

We had a pioneer rack mounted behind the seat in our trucks in the Marines, I was thinking that all the trucks had them there.

Whats wrong with the tool rack that is on the truck? other than it was a pain to get to some times with gear piled up in the cab.

A "rest of the story" on Bill W's binocular holder, or big gulp holder...
I sold him the binocular holder at a show in Georgia. I had a few, and NO BODY wanted them. I was also , selling them cheap, but could not even give them away.
Bill buys one from me, every body thinks he has lost his mind...
