    the casting # 638632 W5A NI-CR is a WWII Willys block the S/N starting with MB indicates it was for an MB The build date is generally stamped on the bottom under the oil pan gasket.

    Check the vin out, the 6th digit is the year. I say this because the M880 series trucks were 76 & 77 model year trucks.

    Brake Line Question

    You can attempt to gravity flush them. Loosen 1 wheel cylinder bleeder (with a hose to a container) and leave the M/C cap loose keep the M/C full and when fresh fluid comes out move to the next wheel.

    Now I'm no dealer, heck I've only sold 1 deuce. but that thing did not leave the yard until the operation was explained, then I demonstrated actual driving. Tell your Dad he isn't the 1st one to do that and ain't gonna be the last.

    6.2 to 727 adapter??

    I don't know the adapter answers. Kinda pricey though, for that money, heads from an mid 80's 5.2 cop car and and rv cam will make some good torque with the 318, but the 8 to 10 mpg will still be there. a 6.2 in a Dodge might be sacreligous, but I understand your reasoning.     depends on how you define "a little work" and the fact that the frame rails may have already been cut too short as you are looking at moving the rear springs back more than a foot.
