yes there the same case. Just the ones inback of the cummins has OD and the ones with the multi do not. Both will interchange.

well I think you got it correct.. the one on the driver rear is stated to be the glow plug inhibit ..(per auto supply houses) but that could be the wrong description. If its working then it the correct one.
just on how the timing is set. From the factory they take a blank pump and block, set the timing and then they mark the block and pump with the line. Now if the pump is changed, the timing mark realigned the timing will NOT be the same. The timing has to be set with the timing box (tool to do...
Really a taller OD all you will do is twist off the input shaft of the trans. Axle gearing is the best way to go. A 10 speed or whatever trans with different axles would be the cats rear.
Adding a brownie box will get you a little more speed but again the drive shafts will be spinning over 3K...
if the problem started after you installed the fuel filter I think you found your area of issue. did you bleed out the fillter correct? have no bad/leaking fuel lines? The rubber ones are 20+ years old and if you have not changed them it might be a good idea.
