Pros and Cons of zipper boots

Pros- they are quicker to install. Cons- they don't hold up very well. That about sums it up. I will say that I've got zipper boots on my truck right now. I've recently re-sealed and greased my front end but one of the boots has already ripped. I'll more than likely install another zipper...

    Experience buying scrap from GL

The established scrap dealers seem to also have more lead-way as far as mutilation is concerned. They still have to mutilate it but the DOD personnel won't look over their shoulder the whole time. They may just come by after it's mutilated and inspect because they've dealt with them before and...

    Experience buying scrap from GL

I will say that I've bid on several scrap lots. I can't compete with the big boys. I can get a pretty good price from scrap (better prices than the average joe off the street can get) but every lot I've bid on went for more than I could sell it for. You also have to consider the price...

    R.I.P--SHOOTINIRON--James Ruman

There's really nothing I can say that hasn't already been said. I have the same feelings as all the other members (shock and disbelief). I just felt I should post to let everyone know I'm thinking about him also.

    Tools.

I like good quality tools but I'm not hung up on Snap-on, MAC, etc. I've just seen too many good mechanics owe their soul to the Snap-on man. They are good tools but overpriced IMO compared to other good quality tools out there.

It looks good on Dave's screenshot. I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my computer because I can't see it. I tried opening the thread in Firefox and IE and all I get is the weird squares.

    definitive cause of death wobble

Someone posted a vid awhile back of a A3 that had a so called "death wobble". It looked like a mild shimmy to me. I had a '74 Chevy that I called a death wobble. It was usually started by hitting a bump in the road and was so bad that you would almost loose control. The only way to get it to...

    Tools.

About 7 cents a pound if you had to scrap them all. 17 cents is still a great price if there is anything to salvage at all.

    Gun Trucks at Knob Creek

Yes, The range used to be part of Ft. Knox. One of the best places to have a private range IMO. The infrastructure was already there and they are mostly surrounded by Ft. Knox ( no neighbors to complain about the noise).

    Auber EGT Pyro installed

I haven't ever tapered holes for pipe taps. It would be better but most people don't have tapered reamers lying around their shop. The tap will taper the hole as it cuts most of the time. It can get tough though if you go very deep into something like mild steel. I'd say a tapered hole would...

    M715's Good or Bad ??

I've done quite a bit of "wheeling" in mine. I try not to be too hard on the truck though. I've never not been able to go where I wanted to but I'll admit the sometimes I'll go around a obstacle to get there. They are far from being bullet proof (as are all other stock MVs) but will hold up if...

    Auber EGT Pyro installed

:ditto: I drilled mine with everything in place and the engine running. I'm fairly sure no shavings got inside. There was quite a bit of force coming out of the hole.

Why the Deuce Doesn't Have These I'll Never Know!

I told myself that I wasn't even going to look at this thread again but here I am. aua It's like it sucks you in to a bad nightmare that you can't get out of. It's gotten to the point it's comical.

    Gillespie paint chips

Looking at colors on the internet can be deceiving. It can give you a vague idea of the color though. What I'd do is find a color you think you like. Then buy a spray can of said color. Try it out and see how you like it before you order any quantity.

    M35A3 drivability and performance

Until I got married (wife's car) I have only owned one auto my whole life. It was a POS so it kind of turned me against them. I do realize that autos have come a long ways since then (early '80s truck) and you can't hardly buy anything 1-ton or under with a stick anymore. The auto trans is a...

Why the Deuce Doesn't Have These I'll Never Know!

:ditto: Good grief. You get your lockers and let everybody else run open if they want to. I know you think lockers are the greatest thing. We get the point. That's fine with me and most everybody else. There's no need to try convert everybody else into your line of thinking. When you get this...

Yes, you have to at least pull the axle to replace the seals.

Why the Deuce Doesn't Have These I'll Never Know!

Haven't we been through all this before? http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce-modification-hot-rodding/29698-why-deuce-doesnt-have-these.html it's better to add to a thread than start a new one on the same subject.
