    86 M1009 questions

It is a hybrid 12/24v system but running 12v accessories does not utilize the advantage of the 24v system which would be higher voltage and less amperage. That is why the starting system is far superior to the civi 12v system. Anything you install that has a 24v option, take it. I politely...

    86 M1009 questions

If you plan on running lots of electrical accessories, I would convert it back to 24v and make all the lights and possibly winch 24v as well. The CUCV has a killer electrical system when working correctly, stick with it.

going to look at a 1008

That seems to be the response when most people ask about buying a new rig. "I don't mind working on it" or "I want something cheap I can fix up". Something along those lines. That really has no correlation to the trucks condition. It is a simple fact that you could buy a $1000 truck and spend...

going to look at a 1008

Old truck plus being a CUCV...plan on it needing fuel system repairs, new GP's, maybe some GP controller parts, new batteries, charging system issues, new vacuum lines, and a host of other maintenance issues. Unless someone has spent the time on it and has been driving it all the time, 99%...

    M998 HMMWV tach install issues

So trying to install a tach in the M1031, I do not want a tiny tach. I would like to have some military looking tach that has an appropriate scale for a diesel engine. I bought the M998 tach. There seems to be a ton of confusing and contradicting info in the forums about tach installs. Whether...

    Glow plug life span?

I wonder if there was a possible bad batch of plugs and you went through a bunch of them. You may also have a bad controller or temp sensor. Does the voltmeter indicate the GP's staying on for a long time? I have gone through and replaced the injection pump, fuel system, and new GP's. It fires...

    STE/ICE diagnostic port, Atlanta area

If you have a good multimeter, this diagnostic device is useless. It was stated before, it isn't like an OBDII car. Even older cars pre 95 have computers with serial data that will talk to a scan tool. The CUCV's have nothing. Save your money for a good fluke meter and an infared temp gun. Money...

    M1008 Spacers

This is exactly why I chose not to do the H1's, recentered or spaced. This truck will not be a rockcrawler and I do not intend on being shot at while driving. Therefore, I really have no need for such a rim. Not only is the extra weight a concern, but handling them is just a pain. I installed a...

    Gauges

Speaking of speedo drive gears... Anyone know what the replacement gear protocol is for doing the common 37" tire upgrade with the 4.56 gears? I believe mine is off about 10% which would be nice to make the correction too.

    military applied undercoating?

That is what I have. You can see where large chunks have come off and the original CARC is underneath. Looks brand new in spots.

    Hack-job crew cab CUCV?

A 2wd to 4wd swap would be killer. Not only do you get a truck that probably hasn't seen as much road salt through the winter but the price is thousands less. When you do the frontend with leafs, you are already set up for high steer. Drop a Ford hi pinion D60 with crossover and it's good to go.

    Fuel sending unit

This is a very simple diag that I am going to try and remember. You pull the wire that feeds the guage. With the key on it should read max full or empty, can't remember which one. Then touch that wire to a very good ground. Again, key on...it should go to the opposite side of the guage. If it...

    Hack-job crew cab CUCV?

If you are looking for a diesel crew cab that is like a CUCV, why not a pre-94' W350 Dodge, pre-92' K30, or pre-98' Ford F350? All can be had with full crew cabs and diesels. All have D60 front axles and are pretty stout out of the box. You would be time and money ahead just buying one of these...

    military applied undercoating?

I do not have any type of oily or rubberized coating on my truck at all. It does have what appears to have large chunks of paint like substance flaking off on the frame in spots. I also have a decal on the radiator support that says something about an undercoat has been applied. Looks government...

    Alternator regulator wiring plug

CUCV electric sells all of that stuff and he has a reputation with SS members. I have purchased from him before and his parts are top notch with great service. If you need anything electrical, I would probably shop with him first before heading to a parts store. If you are starting to get...

    M-1032e1

Most of the wiring is for the safety switches. It keeps the governor from functioning unless the tcase is in neutral and the gear shift in D range. You really could run a power feed from a toggle switch on the dash to the governor control box but you are bypassing the safeties at that point. I...

    engine swap

Why not just replace it with another 6.2? It will be cheaper than doing a 350 conversion, all the systems remain stock, and your MPG's will be better. The 6.2 isn't exactly a gem but neither is a plain jane 350. I could understand it if you were doing some fancy stroker with fuel injection or...
