I've got a couple of military truck tractors. I also have a gooseneck. I think the best way to tow the gooseneck with an M931 is to tuck a gooseneck ball low between the frame rails.
I think Justin Wehring did one that way. Someone did, and it was very slick. Let me go look....
Catastrophic is defined as "mashed the brake pedal to the floor and nothing happened"
These single circuit brake systems are capable of doing that without warning. Full airbrakes with springbrakes are much to be preferred. (Which kind of begs the question of why I have 3 single circuit air...
I know the highway of which you speak. I picked some stuff up from Franklin last summer and drove through there with a 20+5' gooseneck with two M105A2s on board.
The 8x8s you mention are HEMTTs.
The expansible truck is an M934.
I suggest some more looking before you settle on a deuce. You...
I'll bet this is close to exactly what you're looking for -

You're trying to reinvent the wheel. There's a gob of existing shelter designs out there, specifically designed to work with the truck as designed. Unless you have very specific needs, grabbing one "off the shelf" is almost certainly going to be both better and less expensive.
Take a look at...
They have an extensive history of brake failure. It's just not usually catastrophic.
I've got three trucks currently with single circuit brakes. Two of the three have brake problems making them unsafe to drive. (One has a confirmed bad air pack and has a new one on the way.)
Some thoughts on additional visibility -
Mud flaps with copious amounts of conspicuity tape - removable, with no permanent alteration to the truck.
Hang a set of wrecker tow lights on the back. They plug right in, and again make no permanent alteration to the truck. And then you always have...
RRAD was an IROAN site. Quality there varies from excellent with new engines, to "only paint, and that over rust". The RSMS trucks are noticeably and consistently better.
The motor in your hmmwv will have a date tag on it and you can tell when it was made. As noted, it's certainly not original...
Equipment and toys, no matter how nice or how rare, can be replaced.
Thankfully there's no mention of severe injury or death.
Let the insurance company pay out at current market value, that's what they're for. When push comes to shove, that's how this will play out. (They're either going to...
It isn't the frequency of catastrophic failure that's the primary problem. It's the severity of potential consequences when it does happen.
Properly maintaining and preemptively replacing components only addresses the frequency of failure, pushing it that much closer to zero.
A redundant...
Let me rephrase some of your questions -
"I have found one of the rarer variations, worth a bit more than the standard variant. I could trade it for a standard variant, and put $$ in my pocket. Instead, should I hack it up and spend time and money to convert it to the standard variant? "
"As...
When they replace the engines, they get one out of a can. Engines in a can are either new or reman.
Typically, RSMS trucks are the best ones, at least in the 5ton world.
