The procedure is clearly shown and described in the -34 TM. I found it by opening my pdf file of the TM and looking at the pages for a picture that looked like the steering column.(it's in the section about replacing the direction signal switch). Do you have the CUCV TMs saved?

It's easier to remove the 4 bolts that hold the seat frame to the slide mechanism and replace the back out of the cab, than to use a stubby phillips behind the seat back(in the cab).

Is your pintle hitch at the same height as the trailer pintle ring(with trailer level)? Were you backing up on a level location?

Any arcing on a brake line most likely cause a pit or at least surface deformation. It will now have a weak spot. It most likely will corrode there also. I would seriously consider replacing the brake line now.

Last year, I towed an M101 with cover on for 2000 miles(one trip) at 65-70 mph. No damage or wear that I can tell. You'll be fine with it on.
