Actually I have looked into power rotate. Currently I use a come-a-long to pull the boom over the bed if needed. I found a video of a guy that uses a horrible freight winch sideways to have controlled power rotate cheaply. He even hooked up a secondary gear box so it would spin slower.
The mount is the most important part, then lift capacity and reach. They are all kinda related so keep that in mind. I have cranes that have hydraulic lift, extend, swing, and hoist. The crane I made for the bed of my deuce has an electric winch and everything else is manual. I want to be able...
Thats pretty cool!
If it were me, I'd replace the filters. I dunno that I'd worry about using foam, I may just see whats available in the lawn mower section at blows or homedespot.
Call any time. The best advise I could give is when you think you have enough bracing and gussets, add 40% more!
As stated earlier, I built the crane in my deuce bed. I put a 5/8 plate under the bed to mount it to and spread the load. Once I used it, the bed floor flexed DOWN! So I had to add...
Honestly, I would skin the deck in sheet metal and re-do the tongue-"A" frame part for rigidity. I cannot comment on the axle placement or width.
How far off the ground is the tongue? Does it have any brakes?
After working with thick wall tube for my dump trailer project, I will be using channel next time! I'm glad I have a magdrill cause drilling those holes square and parallel would have been horrible with a hand drill! Lots of beveling for welding too. What a pita.
The way I was talking about, the aux tanks wouldn't get filled with air till the original "main tanks" were full(or at whatever pressure you want). That way, you don't have to let your truck sit longer to make air pressure(with additional air tank volume).
Its hard to tell from the one pic, but if your "A" frame runs under the main frame from as far back and as far wide as you can go, that helps a ton! Single axle, or dual? Weight rating? Manufacturer?
