Front Output Shaft Seal Leak after replacement

UPDATE: Front Output Shaft Seal Leak after replacement Well it appears the seal may have been the wrong one. At first it looked like I had a newer version with a lip on the outer edge and an original style. I dissected it yesterday evening and the spring was still in place however I noticed...

Front Output Shaft Seal Leak after replacement

Yep, the seal I used was the newer revision with a slight lop on the outside edge so you knew which way to put it in. the backup I have is the old style without the lip on the outer edge. One was from OD and the other from Saturn can remember which the new revision came from.

Front Output Shaft Seal Leak after replacement

DockWatson, thanks but it’s not leaking on that end of the yoke.

Front Output Shaft Seal Leak after replacement

I appreciate your advice; yes, this is a hard one. No groves in the yoke. I scotch brited it back to a nice shine where the seal rides and a few cm further. No the nut seal is working fine so no leaks from the end of the yoke. The yoke looks good and I did not see any cracks. Case looked good...

Front Output Shaft Seal Leak after replacement

Duly noted and I will not on the next one. I did smooth it out to about 4 mil thick just to aid in putting it in and for a final seal but I will leave it out on the next one. Do you think it may be what happened with this one? Thank you,

Front Output Shaft Seal Leak after replacement

Thank you for the reply, all ideas and advice are welcomed. I will be looking at the seal when I pull it back out. One odd addition was that I drove it to work yesterday and put a bucket under it to catch any fluid that dripped out and there was a trail from where I parked it but the bucket...

Front Output Shaft Seal Leak after replacement

I read up on this here on SS, used the TM/34 for info, and replaced a worn front output seal on my M1008 transfer case yesterday after work. I checked the bearing play and there was little to none on the front output shaft. I lubed the inside of the seal, applied a small amount of silicone to...

    Injector Fouling cure

Never-mind, found your reply in the "anyone know the injector number?" thread with it. Guess it wouldn't hurt to put the info here also but I'll leave that up to you. Thanks and sorry if I hijacked this a bit.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately? - Part 1

Today I picked my spare up out of the road from where the hangar let lose in my neighborhood. Thank god it didn't let loose at 55 on the highway. Now to figure out why it let lose because all the parts appear to be together and in good shape.

    Tiny Tach is in!

Speedometer cable grommet worked great! I got it in this evening and love it. It appears to be pretty close to the RPM's listed earlier in the thread. Will have to test with GPS later.

Replaced bad (-) terminal on battery 2. cleaned and tightened all (+) & (-) rail connections on the firewall. Started late so ran out of daylight before cleaning starter connections and engine ground. Something for another day.

    Tiny Tach is in!

Wiring is pre-made (coax) and not meant to be altered. Ground is within a few inches of the red pickup wire.

    Tiny Tach is in!

Ok mine arrived in the mail yesterday and I have a question for someone who has already put one in. How do you get the red and white wires with connectors through the firewall grommet without tearing the bejesus out of them or the grommet? The ground clip on the white wire is not going to make...

    Sylvania Silverstar Installation

Nice research, thanks for writing it up. I had had them in a previous car and liked them so about a month ago I put them in my M1008 and am happy with them.

    Troop seat pins

I took one of mine and used a drill/hole gauge to find the size and headed down to my local hardware store not the big box one but the old fashioned one that has everything under the sun. I looked for the proper size "Detent Pin" and for about $4 each I replaced all the missing ones from my...
