I installed AutoMeter pyro and boost gages in my M915A1 tractor. AutoMeter because I come from a racing backround and always liked their gages. I mounted the gages on an aluminum block so that I could prewire and plumb the gages out of the truck. I used the existing dash mounting screws to...
Anyone have any experience with a 400 HP Cummins dying after a long coast? This has happened three times now. After coming down a long slight grade with no throttle and coming up to a stop sign or freeway exit the engine just stops cleanly as if I shut off the key. I coast off to the side of...
I was looking at the door panel tags on my 1984 M915A1 and found two warning tags about use of Detroit Lockers. Does this mean that my truck has lockers in it? If so, was this standard or did I just get lucky?
I want to make my M915A1 as quiet as possible. I plan on doing this by adding sound deadening in stages. The first stage was the floor section of the cab. I used regular household 6" thick fiberglass insulation against the floorboards and then covered it with a 1/2" thick aluminum foil...
I could never seem to find accurate turning radius data on trucks. The turning RADIUS listed varied and sometimes the distance listed was actually a diameter. I wanted to compare my M915A1 & M818 so I took each one and turned a full 180 degrees and measured from outside to outside(i.e, real...
I needed to haul my halftrack around so I came up with ramps for the M871 Semi-trailer. There seemed to be some interest in info I posted about the trailer and I took some photos during the fab process so I thought I would post them. Here is the finished product.
Gage was working fine on both tanks. Started the truck last week and the gage read empty on both tanks, even though they had plenty of fuel in them. I'm assuming the problem is in the gage selector switch or in the gage itself. Anyone have experience with this problem and where is the first...
I just got an M915A1 with a Cummins 400. I want to add boost and pyro gages but don't know what ranges to get. Is the 400 in vacuum at idle and what is the maximum boost that a stock 400 will see. Also, what is the max temp the exhaust should see?
I'm going to recover an M915A1 next week and I want to check the rear diffs oil levels. Does anyone know where the plugs are located and what kind of wrench they need? Thanks.
The brake lights on my M818 turn on for about 2 seconds when I step on the brake pedal and then they go out. All the other lights work fine and the blinker switch has been replaced. Anyone know what might be causing the problem?
I just won an M818 and got it home. Have a weird problem with stop lights that hopefully someone can help with. The rear turn signals work on both sides(L & R) with the headlight switch in both positions- Service Stop and Service Drive. The problem is that the R Stop light works correctly in...
I picked up my XM818 with Cummins last week. I am looking for the VIN #. I know it is supposed to be on the drivers side frame at the front wheel next to the shock mount, but I can not find it no matter how closely I look. Can someone post a photo of a VIN number on an 800 series truck so I...
I just won an XM818 tractor with Cummins in California. I've read all the threads about finding the serial number and determining the year for the SF97, but I don't understand it. Does GL just take your word for the year and S/N on the SF97? If proof is required, how do you do that? The S/N...
I'm thinking of buying a deuce to pull an equipment(backhoe) trailer. Does anyone know the height of the pintle hitch above the ground and what size lunette the hitch will accept? Also, where can I get the male plug for the trailer wiring that would plug into the deuce female socket?
I have a halftrack that I want to haul around. Am considering buying a deuce and a tag trailer like a 10 ton backhoe trailer(interstate, zieman, miller, etc.) with air brakes. Anyone done this? Correct me if wrong, but I think deuce has service gladhand that gives modulated air for service...
