I'd like to respectfully recommend an MEP-831a. I do not have one, but the low hour, good running ones last forever. If you are handy, you can jerry rig 2 motorcycle bateries in series for 24v outside the genset compartment (the factory 24v battery is hard to find and like $450).
They are...
I like your train of thought. I assume that piece you broke is cast iron. I'd consider making my own out of thick plate steel. Depends on your skill set, collection of tools, metal supplier, and available free time. Good luck. Keep us posted.
Just out of curiousity, what should no load hertz be set at on the mep-80x units? I remember my 002a was 61.5-62hz. Is it the same for the 80x units? Ty
Your adaptor won't work. The trailer is 24v.
Go to harbor freight and get one of these. I did. They are awesome and cheap and work great.

My on site contact (govplanet employee) helped me lift the tongue of mine onto my pintle. It wasn't bad. If you and a buddy go, it's easier. If it's just you, and the onsite contact helps you place the trailer on your truck, have a $10-20 bill at the ready in your front pocket to thank him.

Have you ever considered cutting the sheet aluminum? Or is it policy that you followed military procedure By taking the gensets apart each time a well nut required replacing?
Can't say how happy i am to know that future well nut repairs if any will take 5 minutes.
I'm VERY much considering...
Maybe the pump but not the injectors. I sent them off to ... storeman ? for an adjustment .. he set them perfectly. Dunno, but it was running great once i adjusted the governor. Regardless, its gone. If the IP was timed incorrectly, it was timed wrong at the factory. Cause the whole unit was...
had a similar isue with mine until i figured out how to start it.
Many here say set the throttle at 1800 rpm (60 hz) and LEAVE IT THERE. well, when i tried that, at THAT throttle position, my mep-002a WOULD NOT START. it chugged, and chugged, but would not start.
It seems i was flooding it...
I replaced my 802's fuel tank well nuts a couple months ago. The process was horrendous but I was happy to get it done. Being my unit has 26 original hours on it, i wanted to cover all bases on it to ensure reliability for the long haul.
Needless to say, the dreadful feeling that came over me...
The official "How to omit & permanently seal 80x fuel tank drain hole" thread.
My fix with new bungs on my 2000 mep-802a failed. Lost 4 gal of diesel in less than a few weeks. Made the fix with new bung, assumed i was good. Went back couple weeks later, fuel leaked out. No clue what i did...
You are correct sir. The main tank is a day tank. Also, i would suggest NOT using a pressure washer inside the tank. If i used a pressure washer to clean my tank out on my previous 002a, i would have blasted a hole right through it. There wasn't much left to the bottom of the tank.
After...
I forgot about this mod, and this thread. However i did check the guages the other day. Mine are blue with red plug. So i guess i have to buy the bulb holders and bulbs.
As usuall, kloppk comes thru! Thanks for the info. I'll be ordering parts tomorrow!
Quick question for you all. When i...
See the bulge in the neck of the fuel tank? UNREAL. good thing is i will install my new filler neck hose and keep the old one for back up. It's certainly more plyable than the new one, but has no cracks of any kind, and with a liberal coating of silicone spray, should store well as a future part.
NOT fun guys. Not funny. I temporarily removed and welded two steel tabs onto my old boat trailer axle and bolted the genset to them. Also welded up a front axle for it which didn't turn out as useful as i had hoped but i got it inside to work on. I wish i had kept track of which bolts go where...
thats where the JB weld came into play and all the talk about honing the jb weld .. see the pic above with the gray stuff along the sides of the lower bore? Thats the pic of JB weld applied, but yet to be machined or honed.
Gotcha. What confused me is the sleeve. I didn't know what i was looking at. I have only seen a diesel engine with cast iron sleeves torn apart once. My best friends dad bought a dozer used and it wouldn't run right. We thought it was injectors but once we sent them off to get rebuilt, after...
