Bed tie downs on a deuce

Anyone seen tie down rings inside the bed like you see on the 5 tonners? I see them for sale on E-Bay all the time, just wondered if they were used on the deuce.

    5 ton gasser hi-po mods?

I drove an old gasser RD450 IHC years ago. Slow revving, high torque. That is what it was built for. The 602 should be a little slow to rev up because of the enormous rotating mass. The low compression won't help either. Within it's design specs, it is a good motor. I would be concerned running...

    M1 tank hulls at DRMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree with that. I hate to see an old warbird getting chopped up with the guillotine. Of course, I hate to see an old MV getting the same treatment. However, if that didn't happen.................... We would be up to our rectums in old military hardware. Would that be a bad thing? P.S. I...

    1,100-mile road trip...now knocking

Mine gets a little louder after a long drive. The diesel clatter is really loud at 2000 rpm, but drops off at 2200. Still runs good, so I don't worry about it. The engine does have solid lifters.

Always have a couple of blondes handy when you get stuck!

I learned to drive in Fla. white sand. First rule: You don't want an agressive tread, old aircraft tires are best. Second rule: Run as low an air pressure as possible without damaging tires or rolling them off the rims. Third rule: Keep the weight as even as possible front to rear axle. Follow...

    Wow, EUC Approval Already!

I may be able to take off that day and help you get the truck ready. I'm not an expert on the deuce by any means, but I can find my way around one without any trouble. I'll see if I can make you up a muffler bracket.

    Who made the D turbo?

I have that manual. It looks like the 4LE-456 is the "D" turbo. My manual is dated April 1979. No listing of the LDT 465 1-D in the index. The 4LE-456 is listed as the LDS 465-2 turbo. I have heard the LDS 465-2 engine uses the "D" turbo, but I don't have any proof of that.

    Hydrostatic lock discussion

Sounds like the fuel would be getting through the injection pump, injector, and down into the cylinder. You would have to have an issue with the pump, and a bad injector for that to happen.

    Oil for fuel

I have run 25% used motor oil in the last tank. Strained it through a 5 micron bag filter I got from McMaster Carr. I have heard from a member in the Netherlands that he runs 50% WMO and some kind of diesel fuel mixed. The military adds up to 8% (I think) into JP8 and run it in the diesel...

    Wow, EUC Approval Already!

Are you planning on driving home? Or are you going to trailer the truck? If you are driving, may I suggest you bring a top! I made a tow bar that will pull a Nissan pickup (88-99) or so behind my deuce. I drove my Nissan to Montgomery, and pulled it back behind my deuce when I bought it. If...

    Wow, EUC Approval Already!

You can get a tag in Ga. with a bill of sale, but you can't get a title as far as I know. The vehicle needs to be 25 years old, I believe. Most states will allow you to get registered and get a tag if you have a bill of sale and tag receipt from a non title state (Ga, pre 1981 as we speak)...

Cummins engine from 5t for Deuce??

Cummins 250 is way longer than the engine bay on a deuce. The Cummins 5.9 can be installed. Neither quick, nor easy. A couple of members have done so.

    Deuce muffler bracket

Muffler number 21470 is the NAPA number. It is a 3 1/2" inlet/outlet, 7" can. It is a diesel glasspack. Mine was bright when installed. I drove it a day to burn off any oil, then sprayed a coat of home Depot flat green camo paint.

Ouverson Lock outs HEAVY DUTY SEALED 575 bucks!!

They advertise one for an F150, that would probably be big enough. The one for the Explorer should be OK as well.

Ouverson Lock outs HEAVY DUTY SEALED 575 bucks!!

I keep seeing the Remco units on E-Bay, sometimes around $100. I may just keep an eye out for one of them. At that price, it is hard to beat. I was planning on using the splined section off a couple of deuce driveshafts along with a slip yoke to couple them together. Take a die grinder and...

    Deuce muffler bracket

My daughter couldn't stand the scream of the turbo, didn't want to damage her hearing. Now, with the D turbo, the dentist drill scream is gone. The truck is still loud, on a long trip I wear ear plugs. Engine and gear noise is still right on up there. The muffler is a glasspack, so it has a...
