Temperature Gauge and Oil Gauge install question

Forest522, your picture of where you intend to install the oil pressure sensor is the place I was referring to. I am also interested in the T fitting solution to keep the idiot light working. Very interesting. Have a great day.

Temperature Gauge and Oil Gauge install question

Removal of the sensor and wire just forward of the driver's side first glowplug will not interfere with the cold advance control circuit (that sensor is located near the back of the passenger side cylinder head, with 2 wires), although the idiot light will no longer work. I have seen a...

    rear drive shaft question

I agree with scottladdy. The old seal is still in place and in need of replacement. I also agree that the vehicle should be repaired by a qualified technician. There may be damage not readily noticeable to a novice, and there is no room for error with damaged suspension components. Your life and...

    EPARTSMAN's M1009 Build

Good luck with it. Your enthusiasm is contagious. I can't wait to get to work on mine.

    rear drive shaft question

It sounds like the rear output shaft seal on the transfer case. You can buy that in any auto parts store for about $10 or $12. That seal can be easily replaced with a large socket or piece of wood, and a hammer. Please use care so as not to destroy it because you can deform it by hitting it too...

    Roll painting a CUCV

I used the Behr paint formula I found here to paint my hood with a roller. It is not as smooth as it would be using a sprayer, but it was easy. I did follow up and used spray paint to add the flat black camo pattern. I think it came out amazing. I am waiting for warmer weather to keep going.

What is the correct operating temp?

I wondered if the 160 degrees my M1009 registers all the time is too cold. I keep track of my fuel economy in an almost zealous manner and have never gotten better than about 15-16 mpg on a 200 mile roadtrip from NY to Rausch Creek Offroad Park for the semi-annual Rally. Around town is only...

    New glow plugs

I agree. It's not necessary to change all the glowplugs unless they are really old. I check them all at least three times a year and change any that have stopped working. There is usually at least one. I usually check right after I notice a difference in the starting effort necessary to start...

    Waste oil and Glowplugs

I'm not sure if this helps, but I do not run WMO and I have a problem arise every winter. My M1009 will become hard to start in the cold and eventually will become almost impossible to start. I find that the number 2,3 and 4 glow plugs on the driver's side and number 2 and 3 glow plugs on the...

Operating a CUCV with no alternator belts-help!

I agree. I have since changed the set of belts on the M1009 and now keep the old set in the truck as spares.

Operating a CUCV with no alternator belts-help!

The same thing happened to me one night as I was leaving the parking lot at work (both alternator belts broke at the same time). I drove home 45 miles with the headlights on and made it with no problem. Granted my batteries were fairly new. The truck even had enough juice to start up again the...

Fall 2012 Rausch Creek Sign Up Thread

My son and I had a great time meeting new people and seeing people we haven't seen since the last rally. The trails were a blast and we are looking forward to the next rally. Thanks to Joe for organizing and Mike for the cooler- it's perfect. The pork that Bob made was delicious. Here are some...

    M1009 Steering

It seems the backspacing on your wheels may not be correct for the vehicle. Spidertrax sells nice spacers for the M1009 that can be purchased from any of a number of off-road vendors, however I would not recommend them for the front axle. As for the steering that doesn't return, check your ball...

    New paint on a M1009

That is a really nice paint restoration and rust-free truck.

M1009 Front Axle or wheel vibration

The front axleshafts as you describe them seem to me to be normal. Mine spin freely when the hub is unlocked and I am able to slide them in and out a bit. For some reason, your vibration makes me think of a driveshaft that is out of balance or bent, or a bent rear axleshaft. It may also be a...

    TH400 Trans bellhousing bolts

Use a really long extension and a swivel on the socket. It is no problem to just tighten the very top bolts from the bottom. As far as the bolts being standard and not metric thread, all the American carmakers used both types of bolts on their vehicles during the 1980's. It seemed to be a...

    M1009 Factory Console Restore

If there is no obvious retainer clip or nut or screwed in plate on the rear of the lock cylinder, it may require the actual key. Sometimes the key is necessary to spin the actual cylinder past a locking point in the cylinder bore to facilitate it's removal. As far as the cracks, they make...

Camper M109 - Spacial Transformations style

That is a sweet rig, and the places you've been with it seem just as amazing. Congratulations on a first class execution of your ideas to reality.
