I recently had 5 of 8 new Autolite 1110 glowplugs go bad (2 of them swollen) after only a week or so of life. That is interesting to me. One I was able to pull out with a visegrip, but the other one broke the tip off in the small pre-combustion chamber. I purchased a 30 mm socket from the auto...
I just checked the Rausch Creek forums and the calendar states there are events taking place on 4/14, 4/21 and 4/28. I know there is also a show in North Carolina on 4/7 that some may be attending. Is anyone interested in the weekend of 4/7 (I know it is Easter Weekend)? It has been some time...
Not sure if it helps, but i frequently find that the oil in my CUCV's turns pitch black soon after it is changed. Motor oil generally turns black as a result of extreme heat, and I guess there would be a lot of heat in a motor that has a 21 or 22 to 1 compression ratio. There also may be some...
That notch is definitely not supposed to be there. Your gear lever is rubbing the oil line and will eventually create a hole if not addressed. When installing the new lines you purchased, make sure they don't come too close to moving or stationary components. The aluminum lines can be gently...
I am only able to manage about 16 mpg with my M1009 during highway driving around 65 mph. It rides on 32x12.50R15 BFG KM2's. They are not that loud for mud tires.
I have one of those covers on my M1009. I believe there is only one size for them. It is really adjustable and fits great on the seat. There are 7 velcro straps around the perimeter of the seat, allowing for plenty of adjustment, literally several inches. All that extra storage in the pouches is...
It is possible that the 6 bolts that connect the transmission case to the motor may have loosened up and backed out. Especially if you say the flexplate is grinding against the aluminum. That circumstance should be impossible if those bolts are tight.
You should be able to reach up and get the bolt started by hand. I have done it several times (unfortunately) due to a bad transmission and subsequent bad used transmission. You just have to feel around for the bolt hole and use the extensions and swivel to tighten it up after it's started.
I had to replace a broken valve spring when I got my M1009 from GL. It sounded like an engine knock a bit, got louder when the engine revved, and there didn't seem to be any power loss.
I mounted my radio in an old Craftsman toolbox that I bolted to the floor between the front seats in my M1009 with a few L-brackets. I made up a piece of plywood that was screwed into the toolbox flush with the inside lip, where the radio is mounted, allowing me to close the toolbox lid. This...
I removed the resistor wire from the harness that plugs into the wiper motor on my M1009 about a year ago and the wipers work great now. The connector plugs are duplicates and it will still plug right back into the wiper motor. I understand that the resistor was mainly for suppressing radio...
I needed a driveshaft for my M1009 when I bought it due to it being really bent. I went to the junkyard and they had a huge pile of used driveshafts. I matched up the length and then the spline count on the yoke. The spline count was wrong, so I bought a new u-joint and transferred the yoke from...
